Supported PS5 features

The QM8 takes full advantage of the PlayStation 5 as the following features are supported:

  • 120 Hz fresh rate
  • Variable refresh rate range between 48 fps to 120 fps
  • HDR10
  • Auto Low Latency Mode

Supported Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S features

The TCL television also supports all of the visual features being offered by the Series X and Series S consoles:

  • 120 Hz fresh rate
  • Variable refresh rate range between 40 fps to 120 fps
  • HDR10
  • Dolby Vision
  • Auto Low Latency Mode

How to set up the QM8 for PS5, Series X and Series S

In order to properly set up the TCL QM8 or QM850G, we recommend that you do the following:

1. Connect your console to one of the HDMI ports of the television set. Keep in mind that the HDMI #1 and HDMI #2 ports are HDMI 2.1 while the HDMI #3 and HDMI #4 ports are HDMI 2.0.

For the PS5 and Xbox Series X, use the HDMI 2.1 cable that came with the console to connect to either the HDMI #1 or HDMI #2 port of the TCL QM8.

If you have an Xbox Series S, you can use the HDMI 2.0 cable that came with the system to connect to any of the four HDMI ports of the TV. Alternatively, you can use a HDMI 2.1 cable and then connect the Series S to either of the first two HDMI ports.

2. Next, you need to head over to the Settings menu of your TCL QM8 and then navigate over to the Inputs section.

From there, select the HDMI port where your console is connected to and then make sure that the HDMI Mode is set to HDMI 2.1. You should see the following description:

Always use HDMI 2.1 mode for compatibility. Maximum resolution is 8K 60Hz or 4K 120Hz.

3. The Game Master Mode of the QM8 should automatically be turned on when the TV detects that your current HDMI input is connected to a game console. To double check, go to the Settings – System menu.

The Game Master Mode will reduce the input lag for playing videogames on the PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and other consoles. Variable Refresh Rate and Auto Low Latency Mode will also be turned on.

This mode should unlock the Game Bar as well. You can open the special menu by pressing and holding the hamburger button on the remote control. By doing so, you should have quick access to the Shadow Enhancer (which helps make darker in-game environments easier to see) and other gaming features.

4. While you should be done setting up QM8/QM850G, there is more work to be done on the console side.

For the PS5, go to the console’s Settings app and then select Screen and Video > Video Output.

You should then make sure you have the following setup:

  • Resolution to 2160p
  • VRR to Automatic
  • 120 Hz to Automatic
  • ALLM to Automatic
  • 4K Transfer Rate to Automatic
  • HDR to On When Supported
  • Deep Color Output to Automatic
  • RGB Range to Automatic

On the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, open the Settings app and then make your way to General > TV & display options. Make sure that Resolution is set to 4K and then go to Video modes. From there, you need to make sure that the following options are selected:

  • Allow Auto-Low Latency Mode
  • Allow Variable Refresh Rate
  • Allow 4K
  • Allow HDR10
  • Allow Dolby Vision
  • Allow Dolby Vision for Gaming

5. The final step in the setup process is to calibrate the HDR brightness output settings on your console.

You can do so on the PS5 by heading to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Adjust HDR and then follow the instructions on the screen.

For the Series X and Series S, make your way to General > TV & Display Options > Calibrate HDR for games and then follow the directions.

How to fix Headbangers input lag

Timing is very important if you want to be successful in Headbangers: Rhythm Royale. If you find that there is a lot of input lag when playing this game, then you can check out this troubleshooting article from Seeking Tech to see how you can potentially reduce the latency.

1. If you are playing this multiplayer music game on a television or monitor, then you should make sure that you have Game Mode, or a similar picture setting, enabled in the screen’s settings.

2. We also recommend playing Headbangers using a wired controller. So, make sure you connect the gamepad to the PC or console.

On PlayStation consoles, you should check if you have USB Communcations enabled for the DualSense/DualShock 4. You can find this setting in the PS5 Settings menu by selecting Accessories > Controller (General) > Communication Method > Use USB Cable. For the PS4, open the console’s Settings menu and then select Devices > Controllers > Communication Method > Use USB Cable.

3. Headbangers also offers several in-game options where you can manually adjust the input delay.

For the first one, open the Settings menu and then move the cursor down to Input Latency. Here, you will be able to change the lag, in increments of 5, from a range of –40 to +40.

4. If you are unsure, then you can go to the Latency Calibration menu. This can be done within the Settings menu by pressing Y on the Xbox controller, X on the Nintendo Switch controller or Triangle on the PlayStation controller.

In the Latency Calibration, follow the instructions. Once you are done, the game will automatically adjust the aforementioned Input Latency setting for you.

5. You can also try changing servers. To do so, head back to the Settings menu and you should see the Favourite Region option.

Try to pick a region that you are currently residing in to see if doing so will lead to less network lag, which should help lessen the controller input lag as well.

How to fix Headbangers connection errors

When playing Headbangers: Rhythm Royale, you may experience a lot of disconnections. You may even see the following message appear:

Connection Error

You have been discounted from the server. Please check your connection.

To see how you can potentially fix these issues in this music battle royale game, you can check out this guide at Seeking Tech.

1. For the first step, we recommend checking out the official Headbangers: Rhythm Royale Twitter page to see if there are any ongoing server issues. If there are, then you need to wait until the servers go back online again.

2. If the servers appear to be fine, then you should make sure that there is nothing wrong with your internet connection.

Simultaneous downloads and streams on the same network could cause issues in the game; so, make sure you pause or cancel these bandwidth-hogging activities.

If possible, try to use an Ethernet connection to play the game. If you can’t, then make sure your Wi-Fi signal is strong enough.

3. It should also be noted that the game requires a constant internet connection. Therefore, suspending it and/or putting your PC/console to sleep will eventually cause a disconnection.

4 You can also try switching region servers. To do so, head over to the Settings menu and then move the cursor over to Favourite Region.

You can then switch to a different server using that option.

Recommended LG UR9000 settings for PS5, Xbox Series X and S

If you bought yourself the 2023 LG UR9000 Series LED 4K UHD TV, then you can take a look at this guide from Seeking Tech to see how you can best optimize it for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles.

UR9000 PS5 Capabilities

The UR9000 is pretty limited when it comes to PlayStation 5 games, On the bright side, the TV supports HDR10 output as well as Auto Low Latency Mode.

However, it is not capable of Variable Refresh Rate while also being limited to displaying games at 60 frames per second.

UR9000 Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S Capabilities

When it comes to the Series X and Series S, the UR9000 can display games via HDR10 and Auto Low Latency Mode.

The TV isn’t capable of Dolby Vision HDR, VRR or Low Frame Rate Compensation. As we stated above, the refresh rate tops out at 60 Hz, which means that the maximum frame rate output is 60 fps.

How to setup the UR9000 for console gaming

To set up the UR9000 to get the most out of your current-gen console, we suggest that you take the following steps:

1. If you haven’t done so already, connect your PS5, Xbox Series X and/or Xbox Series S to the UR9000 via HDMI. The television set features three HDMI 2.0 ports.

Make sure you use the HDMI cables that came with your console. The PlayStation 5 and Series X each includes a HDMI 2.1 cable in the box while the Series S come with a HDMI 2.0 cable.

If you use an older HDMI cable, then the games may end up looking worse.

2. Next, you need to head over to the Settings of your UR9000. From there, make your way to HDMI Settings from the External Devices menu. Afterwards, you need to set HDMI Deep Color to 4K.

3. You then need to head over to General and then set the Picture Mode to Game Optimizer. Doing so will enable Auto Low Latency mode, which automatically switches your picture mode to Game Optimizer when the TV detects that your PS5, Series X or Series S is turned on.

Game Optimizer will also reduce the input lag, leading to a more responsive experience.

4. You should now be done setting up your UR9000; however, there is still some work left to do on the console side.

If you have a PS5, then you need to open its Settings menu and then make your way to Screen and Video > Video Output.

From there, make sure that Resolution is set to 2160p and HDR is set to On When Supported. The following settings should also be set to Automatic:

  • VRR
  • 120 Hz
  • ALLM
  • 4K Transfer Rate
  • Deep Color Output
  • RGB Range

For the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, open the Settings menu on these consoles. Afterwards, navigate over to General > TV & Display Options and check to see if Resolution is set to 4K UHD. You should then select Video Modes and make sure you have the following selected in the Video Modes screen:

  • Allow Auto-Low Latency Mode
  • Allow Variable Refresh Rate
  • Allow 4K
  • Allow HDR10

5. One final step is to calibrate the HDR output for the LG UR9000.

You can do so on the PS5 by going to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Adjust HDR.

For the Xbox consoles, you need to head over to Settings > General > TV & Display Options > Calibrate HDR for Games.

Note: If the HDR still looks off when playing specific games, then you might want to consider enabling Auto Dynamic Contrast and/or Dynamic Tone Mapping from the HDMI Settings of the UR9000. Afterwards, we calibrate your HDR console output.
