Recommended TCL S470G settings for PS5, Xbox Series X and S

If you got the 2023 TCL S4, which has a model number that ended with S470G, then you can check out this Seeking Tech guide to see how you can set up this TV when it comes to playing PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S games.

Supported Gaming Features

The S470G is pretty limited when it comes to gaming features. You can play games in HDR10 at 4K and 60 frames per second. Auto Low Latency Mode is also supported.

Other than that, the TV isn’t compatible with some of the more advanced features of the new consoles such as 120 frames per second, Variable Refresh Rate or Dolby Vision.

How to set up the S470G for gaming

In order to optimize the S470G for these gaming systems, we recommend that you take the following steps:

1. If you haven’t done so already, connect your console to the HDMI port of your TCL TV. For best compatibility, use the HDMI cable that came with your PS5, Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S.

You can connect to any of the three HDMI ports of the S470G.

2. Next, use the TV remote to open the Settings menu, where you need to make your way over to the Picture Modes screen. Once you get there, make sure that you have Game Mode selected.

By doing so, you will be able to play games at lower input lag when compared to other display modes of the screen.

3. Next, head over to the Inputs screen in the Settings menu and make sure that Auto Low Latency Mode is activated.

4. Now turn on your console and head over to its Settings menu.

On the PS5, go to Screen and Video > Video Output. On this screen, set Resolution to 2160p and HDR to On When Supported. Afterwards, double check to see if the ALLM, 4K Transfer Rate, Deep Color Output and RGB Range settings are all set to Automatic.

Finally, select Adjust HDR and then follow the instructions on the screen to calibrate the HDR brightness output of the PS5 to the TCL S470G.

On the Xbox consoles, head over to General > TV & display options > Video modes. From there, check the following boxes:

  • Allow auto low-latency mode
  • Allow 4K Allow
  • HDR10

Head back to the General > TV & display options screen and then set Resolution to 4K UHD. Afterwards, select “Calibrate HDR for gaming” and then follow the on-screen tutorial to sync your Series X or Series S HDR brightness output with the S470G.

Your TCL television set should now be fully optimized for your PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S console.

What wall mounts are compatible with the TCL Q550G?

The mount also needs to fit the four mounting screw holes on the back of your Q550G, so you need to know the VESA Mounting Pattern. The 50-inch version uses 200 mm x 200 mm while the 55-inch variant utilizes 200 mm x 300 mm. The biggest size, the 65-incher, supports 300 mm x 300 mm.

It is not compatible with 120 Hz or Variable Refresh Rate.

Supported Xbox Series X and Xbox Series Features

Moreover, this LED does not support 120 Hz, Dolby Vision or VRR.

How to optimize the TCL S450G for console gaming

To properly set up the S450G to get the most out of playing videogames on console, we suggest that you take the following steps:

1. To start off, make sure that you properly connected the PS5, Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S to the TCL.

All three of the HDMI ports of the S450G are 2.0; so, you can connect to any of them. When doing so, make sure you use the HDMI 2.1 cable that came with your PS5/Xbox Series X or HDMI cable that came with your Xbox Series S.

2. Next, pick up the TV remote. Open the Settings menu and then make your way to Picture Modes menu. From there, you need to select Game.

Game Mode is going to reduce the input lag when you are playing a videogame on your HDMI-connected device.

3. In the same Settings menu of the S450G, head over to Inputs and then make sure that Auto Low Latency Mode is enabled.

By doing so, the TV will automatically turn on Game Mode everything it detects that a game console is turned on.

4. Afterwards, head over to the Settings menu on your console.

On the PS5, you should do the following:

  • Go to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output.
  • Set Resolution to 2160p and HDR to On When Supported.
  • Make sure that ALLM, 4K Transfer Rate, Deep Color Output and RGB Range to Automatic.
  • Head over to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Adjust HDR and then follow the instructions to sync the HDR brightness output of the PS5 to the S450G.

If you have your Series X or Series S connected, then you need to take the following steps:

  • Head to Settings > General > TV & display options > Video modes.
  • Make sure that the following are enabled: Allow auto low-latency mode, Allow 4K Allow and HDR10.
  • Return to Settings > General > TV & display options and then make sure that Resolution is set to 4K UHD.
  • You should then select “Calibrate HDR for gaming” in the same menu. Over the course of the next three screens, follow the directions to sync up the HDR output of your Xbox to the TCL LED.

Your S450G should now be fully set up to get the most out of the PS5, Xbox Series X and/or Xbox Series S.

Recommended TCL Q650G settings for PS5, Xbox Series X and S

If you purchased the 2023 TCL Q6, also known as the Q650G, then you can check out this Seeking Tech article to see what settings you should be using to get the most out of your PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S console.

Supported PS5 Features

With the TCL Q650G, you will be able to play games at up to 120 Hz in both 1080p and 1440p. However, the refresh rate is limited to 60 Hz at the 4K resolution.

When it comes to Sony’s console, this television set is also capable of HDR10, Auto Low Latency Mode as well as Variable Refresh Rate starting at 48 Hz.

Supported Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S Features

The Q650G can also display Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S games at up to 120 frames per second in 1080p and 1440p. At 4K, the maximum frame rate drops to 60 fps.

In terms of other Xbox features, this QLED is capable of HDR10 and Dolby Vision. However, HDR will automatically set the resolution to 4K and resolution to 1080p.

While the two Xbox consoles support VRR at 40 Hz, it won’t kick in with this TV unless a minimum of 48 Hz is reached.

How to set up the TCL Q650G for console gaming

To get the most out of the Q650G when it comes to playing videogames, we suggest that you do the following:

1. Connect your console to any of the three HDMI ports of the television if you haven’t done so already.

This TCL TV features HDMI 2.0 ports; so, you should make sure to use the HDMI 2.1 cable that came with your PS5 or Xbox Series X. For the Xbox Series S, you should use the HDMI 2.0 cable that came bundled with the console.

2. Next, press the gear button on the Q650G remote to open the Settings menu. From there, make sure that Picture Mode is set to Game.

3. Afterwards, head over to the Inputs menu of the TV. Once you get there, make sure that Auto Low Latency Mode and Variable Refresh Rate are both enabled.

4. You should be done setting up your TV. On the console side, however, you need to head over to its Settings menu.

Once you are there on your PS5, head over to Screen and Video > Video Output. From there, we recommend that you set the resolution to 2160p, which is 4K. While the frame rate will be limited to 60 fps, a vast majority of games do not support 120 Hz.

Of course, you could always go back to this screen to set the resolution to 1080p or 1440p and then the 120 Hz option to Automatic if you want to play games with that support the 120 Hz mode.

Next, you need to make sure to set HDR to On When Supported as well as the following settings to Automatic:

  • ALLM
  • 4K Transfer Rate
  • Deep Color Output
  • RGB Range

Afterwards, select Adjust HDR to open the HDR brightness calibration menu. Follow the text directions over the next three screens to sync the HDR output of the PS5 to the Q650G.

On the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, you need to go to General > TV & display options > Video modes.

From there, enable the following:

  • Allow auto low-latency mode
  • Allow 4K
  • Allow HDR10
  • Allow Dolby Vision
  • Allow Dolby Vision for Gaming

Next, return to the Settings > General > TV & display options. Since a lot of Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S games run at 60 Hz, we recommend that you leave Resolution to 4K UHD and Refresh Rate to 60 Hz.

If you want to play a game that supports 120 Hz, then you can return here to change Resolution to either 1080p or 1440p as well as Refresh Rate to 120 Hz.

Finally select Calibrate HDR for Gaming. Over the next several screens, you need to follow the directions to sync the HDR brightness output of the Xbox to the TCL Q650G.

You should now be fully set up.

If you have an Xbox Series S, then you can use its included HDMI 2.0 cable to connect to any of the four HDMI ports of the Q7. To get the full video transfer bandwidth, you have to get your own HDMI 2.1 cable and then connect the console to either of the first two HDMI ports.

2. Next, you need to press the home button on the TV remote to go to the home menu of your Q7. From there, press the gear cog button and then select Settings.

Navigate over to the HDMI Mode menu and then make sure that HDMI 2.1 is selected. You should see the following description:

Always use HDMI 2.1 mode for compatibly. Maximum resolution is 8K 60 Hz or 4K 120 Hz.

3. You then need to head over to Settings > System > Game Master.

By turning on Game Master, you will be able to play games at lower input lag in addition to enabling Auto Low Latency Mode and Variable Refresh Rate.

This action will also enable the Game Master menu, which gives you quick access to the videogame settings of the TV. You will be able to view the FPS counter as well as whether or not you have HDR, ALLM and VRR enabled. Furthermore, you can turn on features such as shadow enhancement and aiming aid.

4. Turn on your console and then head over to its video output menu.

If you have the PS5, you can do so by going to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output.

From that screen, set Resolution to 2160p, HDR to On When Supported as well as VRR, 120 Hz, ALLM, 4K Transfer Rate, Deep Color Output and RGB Range to Automatic.

Afterwards, select Adjust HDR. This will open up the HDR brightness calibration menu for the console. For the steps to sync the console’s HDR brightness output to the Q7.

On the Series X and Series S, head over to Settings > General > TV & display options > Video modes.

You should then make sure that the following options are selected:

  • Allow Auto-Low Latency Mode
  • Allow Variable Refresh Rate
  • Allow 4K
  • Allow HDR10
  • Allow Dolby Vision
  • Allow Dolby Vision for Gaming

Head back to the Settings > General > TV & display options screen and then make sure that Resolution is set to 4K UHD while Refresh Rate is set to 120 Hz.

You should then select Calibrate HDR for Gaming. Over the next three screens, follow the steps to align the console’s HDR brightness output to match the capabilities of the Q7.

You should now be fully set to get the most of this TCL television when it comes to gaming on the PS5, Xbox Series X and/or Xbox Series S.

What wall mounts are compatible with the TCL S450G?

When looking for a compatible S450G, pay attention to its capacity limit. Fortunately, this series is very lightweight as the biggest size options weighs no more than 63.9 pounds or 29 kilograms. So, a majority of mounting brackets should be strong enough for the task.

What wall mounts are compatible with the TCL Q650G?

For a wall mount to be compatible with the TCL Q650G, it needs to meet the weight and VESA Mounting Pattern requirements.

When it comes to weight, all screen sizes are considered to be relatively light as they should be no more than 65.0 pounds or 29.5 kilograms.

When it comes to the VESA Mounting Pattern, the 65-inch and 75-inch models use the same 300 mm x 300 mm spacing. The 55-inch (200 mm x 300 mm) and 85-inch (300 mm x 600 mm) versions feature more unique patterns, which limits your choices when it comes to wall mounts.

What wall mounts are compatible with the TCL Q7 and Q750G?

The two most important specs you should pay attention to when it comes to picking a compatible wall mount for your Q7 and Q750G are weight capacity and VESA Mounting Pattern.

The 55-inch (28.9 lbs.) and 65-inch (44.3 lbs.) models should be light enough for a majority of mounting brackets. Your options will be more limited if you have the 75-inch (61.9 lbs.) or 85-inch (82.7 lbs.) versions.

The VESA Mounting Pattern is different depending on your screen size. The 55-incher uses 400 mm x 300 mm while the 65-inch iteration utilizes 300 mm x 300 mm. The 75-inch model supports 400 mm x 400 mm while the 85-inch version features the 600 mm x 400 mm pattern.

What wall mounts are compatible with the TCL QM8 and QM850G?

When it comes to picking the right wall mount for your QM8/QM850G, you need to pay attention to its weight capacity and VESA Mounting Pattern.

The 65-inch model weighs in at 50.1 lbs. with a rather unusual 300 mm x 400 mm pattern.

For the 75-inch screen size, the mount needs to be able to hold at least 68.6 lbs. and fit the 400 mm x 400 mm mounting pattern.

If you got yourself the 85-inch version, then the mounting bracket needs to be strong enough to hold 105.6 lbs. in addition to supporting the 600 mm x 600 mm pattern on the back side of your TV.

For the biggest size, the 98-incher, you will need to find a wall mount strong enough to hold a minimum of 143.3 lbs. while also being able to fit the 600 mm x 600 mm VESA Mounting Pattern.

When it comes to the recommended screw size, some of the wall mounts may come with a variety of screws. Of course, you can also purchase the screw size separately for your TV.

There are three main wall mount types available as you can choose between fixed, tilting or full motion. You can check out our buyer’s guide with this link if you want specific product recommendations for your QM8/QM850G.

  • 120 Hz fresh rate
  • Variable refresh rate range between 48 fps to 120 fps
  • HDR10
  • Auto Low Latency Mode

Supported Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S features

The TCL television also supports all of the visual features being offered by the Series X and Series S consoles:

  • 120 Hz fresh rate
  • Variable refresh rate range between 40 fps to 120 fps
  • HDR10
  • Dolby Vision
  • Auto Low Latency Mode

How to set up the QM8 for PS5, Series X and Series S

In order to properly set up the TCL QM8 or QM850G, we recommend that you do the following:

1. Connect your console to one of the HDMI ports of the television set. Keep in mind that the HDMI #1 and HDMI #2 ports are HDMI 2.1 while the HDMI #3 and HDMI #4 ports are HDMI 2.0.

For the PS5 and Xbox Series X, use the HDMI 2.1 cable that came with the console to connect to either the HDMI #1 or HDMI #2 port of the TCL QM8.

If you have an Xbox Series S, you can use the HDMI 2.0 cable that came with the system to connect to any of the four HDMI ports of the TV. Alternatively, you can use a HDMI 2.1 cable and then connect the Series S to either of the first two HDMI ports.

2. Next, you need to head over to the Settings menu of your TCL QM8 and then navigate over to the Inputs section.

From there, select the HDMI port where your console is connected to and then make sure that the HDMI Mode is set to HDMI 2.1. You should see the following description:

Always use HDMI 2.1 mode for compatibility. Maximum resolution is 8K 60Hz or 4K 120Hz.

3. The Game Master Mode of the QM8 should automatically be turned on when the TV detects that your current HDMI input is connected to a game console. To double check, go to the Settings – System menu.

The Game Master Mode will reduce the input lag for playing videogames on the PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and other consoles. Variable Refresh Rate and Auto Low Latency Mode will also be turned on.

This mode should unlock the Game Bar as well. You can open the special menu by pressing and holding the hamburger button on the remote control. By doing so, you should have quick access to the Shadow Enhancer (which helps make darker in-game environments easier to see) and other gaming features.

4. While you should be done setting up QM8/QM850G, there is more work to be done on the console side.

For the PS5, go to the console’s Settings app and then select Screen and Video > Video Output.

You should then make sure you have the following setup:

  • Resolution to 2160p
  • VRR to Automatic
  • 120 Hz to Automatic
  • ALLM to Automatic
  • 4K Transfer Rate to Automatic
  • HDR to On When Supported
  • Deep Color Output to Automatic
  • RGB Range to Automatic

On the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, open the Settings app and then make your way to General > TV & display options. Make sure that Resolution is set to 4K and then go to Video modes. From there, you need to make sure that the following options are selected:

  • Allow Auto-Low Latency Mode
  • Allow Variable Refresh Rate
  • Allow 4K
  • Allow HDR10
  • Allow Dolby Vision
  • Allow Dolby Vision for Gaming

5. The final step in the setup process is to calibrate the HDR brightness output settings on your console.

You can do so on the PS5 by heading to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Adjust HDR and then follow the instructions on the screen.

For the Series X and Series S, make your way to General > TV & Display Options > Calibrate HDR for games and then follow the directions.
