How to set up the 2023 QNED80 for gaming

We recommend that you take the following steps to optimize your 2023 LG QNED80 for the PS5, Series X and/or Series S:

1. First off, make sure you connect your console to either the third or fourth HDMI ports of the QNED80.

If you have a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, then you should use the HDMI 2.1 cable that came packed into the console box.

If you have an Xbox Series S, then you can use the HDMI 2.0 cable that came with the system or use a HDMI 2.1 cable.

2. Next, use the LG remove to open the Settings menu of the QNED80 and then go to the General tab. From there, make sure you enable Game Optimizer.

3. Afterwards, go to Game menu and then make sure that VRR and ALLM is enabled.

If you would like a quick shortcut to the Game menu, then you can enable the Game Dashboard here as well.

4. While there are other settings in the Game menu of the QNED80, we recommend that you leave them alone. Instead, open the Settings menu on your console.

On the PS5, you need to do the following:

  • Make your way to Video and Screen > Video Output.
  • Double check to see if you set Resolution to 2160p and HDR is set to On When Supported.
  • You should also make sure that VRR, 120 Hz, ALLM, 4K Transfer Rate, Deep Color Output and RGB Range are set to Automatic as well.
  • On the same screen select Adjust HDR. Afterwards, follow the instructions to calibrate the HDR light and dark levels for your 2023 QNED80.

On the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, you should take the following steps:

  • Maneuver over to General > TV & display options > Video modes.
  • Make sure that the following settings have a check mark next to it: Allow Auto-Low Latency Mode, Allow Variable Refresh Rate, Allow 4K and Allow HDR10.
  • Go back to General > TV & display options menu screen and then double check if you have Resolution set to 4K UHD and Refresh Rate set to 120 Hz.
  • On the same screen, select “Calibrate HDR for gaming” and then follow the on-screen instructions to synchronize the HDR brightness output of your Xbox to the QNED80.

You should now be done setting up the LG 2023 QNED80 to get the most out of playing PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and/or Xbox Series S games.

Recommended LG UR8000 settings for PS5, Xbox Series X and S

If you recently got the LG UR8000 Series LED 4K UHD Smart webOS 23 with ThinQ AI TV, then you can check out this guide to see how you can properly set it up in order to get the most out of playing videogames on your PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and/or Xbox Series S.

Supported PS5 Features

With the UR8000, you can play PlayStation 5 games at up to 120 frames per second with Variable Refresh Rate support if you have the 86-inch variant. For the smaller sizes, you are limited to a maximum of 60 fps with no VRR.

All screen sizes of this television support HDR10 and Auto Low Latency Mode when it comes to the PS5.

Supported Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S Features

With the Series X and Series S, the 120 Hz refresh rate and VRR are both limited to the 86-inch screen size. For the smaller sizes, the frame rate tops out at 60 fps with no Variable Refresh Rate.

The TV also supports HDR10 and ALLM when connected to these Xbox consoles. This screen can’t play any Dolby Vision content, however.

How to optimize the UR8000 for gaming

For the best LG UR8000 settings when it comes to playing games on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and/or Xbox Series S, we suggest that you take the following steps:

1. Connect your console to the HDMI port of the UR8000 if you haven’t done so already.

For best compatibility, use the HDMI 2.1 cable that came with your PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. If you have a Series S, then you can use the included HDMI 2.0 cable or get your own HDMI 2.1 cable.

For the 86-inch screen size, make sure you connect the console to a HDMI 2.1 port.

On the 43-inch, 50-inch, 55-inch, 65-inch, 70-inch and 75-inch versions, all three of the HDMI ports are 2.0; therefore, you can use any of the available ports.

2. Use the remote of your LG television set to open the Settings menu. From there, head over to the Game section, where you can then enable the Game Optimizer.

By doing so, the TV will lower the input lag in addition to turning on Dynamic Auto Sync and HDMI Deep Color. Furthermore, 120 frames per second and Variable Refresh Rate should automatically be enabled if you have the 86-inch version of the series.

3. From the same Game section, make sure that ALLM is enabled if it hasn’t been turned on already. This will allow the TV to automatically switch over to Game Optimizer whenever it detects that you are connected to a gaming console.

4. There are other settings in the Game menu such as Game Genre, Reduce Blue Light and Dark Room Mode. We recommend that you leave these alone for now. If a game looks off, then you can try playing with these options later on.

5. You should be done setting up your UR8000 from gaming. However, there is still more work to do on the console side.

For the PS5, head over to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output. In that menu, set Resolution to 2160p, HDR to On When Supported as well as VRR, 120 Hz (if applicable), ALLM, 4K Transfer Rate, Deep Color Output and RGB Range to Automatic.

Afterwards, select Adjust HDR and then follow the on-screen instructions over the next three screens to calibrate the HDR brightness output for your LG UR8000.

For both the Xbox Series X or Series S, go to Settings > General > TV & display options > Video modes. In that screen, select Allow Auto-Low Latency Mode, Allow Variable Refresh Rate (if applicable), Allow 4K and Allow HDR10.

Return to the Settings > General > TV & display options screen and then make sure that Resolution is set to 4K UHD and, if applicable, Refresh Rate is set to 120 Hz.

On the same screen, select Calibrate for HDR Gaming and then follow the steps that appear over the next three screens to configure the HDR brightness output of the console to match the capabilities of the UR8000.

Your TV and console should now be set up to get the most of PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and/or Xbox Series S games.

Recommended LG UR9000 settings for PS5, Xbox Series X and S

If you bought yourself the 2023 LG UR9000 Series LED 4K UHD TV, then you can take a look at this guide from Seeking Tech to see how you can best optimize it for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles.

UR9000 PS5 Capabilities

The UR9000 is pretty limited when it comes to PlayStation 5 games, On the bright side, the TV supports HDR10 output as well as Auto Low Latency Mode.

However, it is not capable of Variable Refresh Rate while also being limited to displaying games at 60 frames per second.

UR9000 Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S Capabilities

When it comes to the Series X and Series S, the UR9000 can display games via HDR10 and Auto Low Latency Mode.

The TV isn’t capable of Dolby Vision HDR, VRR or Low Frame Rate Compensation. As we stated above, the refresh rate tops out at 60 Hz, which means that the maximum frame rate output is 60 fps.

How to setup the UR9000 for console gaming

To set up the UR9000 to get the most out of your current-gen console, we suggest that you take the following steps:

1. If you haven’t done so already, connect your PS5, Xbox Series X and/or Xbox Series S to the UR9000 via HDMI. The television set features three HDMI 2.0 ports.

Make sure you use the HDMI cables that came with your console. The PlayStation 5 and Series X each includes a HDMI 2.1 cable in the box while the Series S come with a HDMI 2.0 cable.

If you use an older HDMI cable, then the games may end up looking worse.

2. Next, you need to head over to the Settings of your UR9000. From there, make your way to HDMI Settings from the External Devices menu. Afterwards, you need to set HDMI Deep Color to 4K.

3. You then need to head over to General and then set the Picture Mode to Game Optimizer. Doing so will enable Auto Low Latency mode, which automatically switches your picture mode to Game Optimizer when the TV detects that your PS5, Series X or Series S is turned on.

Game Optimizer will also reduce the input lag, leading to a more responsive experience.

4. You should now be done setting up your UR9000; however, there is still some work left to do on the console side.

If you have a PS5, then you need to open its Settings menu and then make your way to Screen and Video > Video Output.

From there, make sure that Resolution is set to 2160p and HDR is set to On When Supported. The following settings should also be set to Automatic:

  • VRR
  • 120 Hz
  • ALLM
  • 4K Transfer Rate
  • Deep Color Output
  • RGB Range

For the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, open the Settings menu on these consoles. Afterwards, navigate over to General > TV & Display Options and check to see if Resolution is set to 4K UHD. You should then select Video Modes and make sure you have the following selected in the Video Modes screen:

  • Allow Auto-Low Latency Mode
  • Allow Variable Refresh Rate
  • Allow 4K
  • Allow HDR10

5. One final step is to calibrate the HDR output for the LG UR9000.

You can do so on the PS5 by going to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Adjust HDR.

For the Xbox consoles, you need to head over to Settings > General > TV & Display Options > Calibrate HDR for Games.

Note: If the HDR still looks off when playing specific games, then you might want to consider enabling Auto Dynamic Contrast and/or Dynamic Tone Mapping from the HDMI Settings of the UR9000. Afterwards, we calibrate your HDR console output.

7. You should now be done with setting up your LG C3. With that said, you still have work to do on the console side. To start off, you should check to see if you have the right settings enabled on your PS5, Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S.

For the PlayStation 5, open the console’s Settings menu and then go to Screen and Video > Video Output. From there, you need to set the following options to Automatic:

  • VRR

How to fix LG A3, B3, C3, G3 and Z3 remote pointer issues

You are able to use the magic remote as a pointer for your 2023 LG OLED. If you are having a difficult time trying to get the pointer to work accurately, or at all, then you can take a look at this troubleshooting article from Seeking Tech.

1. If you haven’t done so already, you should make sure that your magic remote is properly paired and registered for your LG A3, LG B3, LG C3, LG G3 or LG Z3.

To re-register your remote, you need to point it towards the TV screen. Afterwards, you should press and hold the home and settings buttons on the controller at the same time for a minimum of 5 seconds.

You can check out this troubleshooter if your TV isn’t able to recognize any inputs from the magic emote.

2. The IR sensor of your television set may not be able to detect the pointer input correctly if it is exposed to overly bright light.

So, if you have bright lights pointed directly at your television screen, you should try to turn them off. If you have sunlight directly shining on the sensor, then try to use blinders to block out the sun.

3. Of course, you should also make sure that you don’t have any obstacles that may be blocking the IR sensor of your OLED screen from receiving the signal of your television remote.

4. Other wireless devices may cause issues with the TV remote inputs as well. So, you can try turning off any nearby electronics that are actively using wireless communications.

5. If you haven’t done so already, try moving closer to your TV. The A3, B3, C3, G3 and Z3 have an IR range of around 10 feet.

6. If the control is working fine but the pointer isn’t showing up, then make sure that you disable the Audio Guidance feature.

In order to do so, press the Settings button on the remote and then select the gear icon. Afterwards, go to General > Accessibility > Audio Guidance. From there, set Audio Guidance to Off.

7. Keep in mind that you can’t use the directional buttons and the pointer at the same time. So, if you press the Up, Down, Left or Right button, then the pointer will disappear.

8. If you manage to get the magic remote pointer to appear but it isn’t moving very smoothly, then you should be able to reset its position by moving the pointer to the edge of the screen.

Of course, you should also make sure that you don’t have any bright lights and/or obstacles that may be blocking the IR sensor.

9. You can also adjust the pointer speed to fit your preferences so that it will appear to be smoother.

In order to do so, you first need to press the Settings button on the remote and then select the Settings option on the TV screen. Afterwards, head over to General > System > Additional Settings > Pointer Options. From there, you will be able to adjust the Tracking Speed as well as the Pointer Size.
