How to fix Panasonic LUMIX GH6 battery drain issues

When using your Panasonic LUMIX GH6 to take photos and capture videos, you may notice that the battery is depleting faster than expected.

To see how you can fix the battery drain issues with this mirrorless camera, you can take a look at this troubleshooting article from Seeking Tech.

1. If you are using the camera for the first time right out of the box, then it is important to note that the included battery won’t be recharged.

Therefore, you should fully recharge the battery, which can take up to 4 hours for a full charge.

2. You should also make sure that the surround temperature isn’t too cold. Otherwise, the battery will drain faster than normal.

According to Panasonic, you should avoid using the camera below -10°C (or 14°F).

3. Using the Wi-Fi connection on your LUMIX GH6 will also drain a lot of battery life. So, if you aren’t using this connection, then you can try disabling it.

4. You can also try using the Power Save mode of this device in order to extend its battery life.

In order to do so, you need to take the following steps:

  • Press the Menu/Set button on the mirrorless camera.
  • Select the wrench icon.
  • Select the camera icon.
  • Select Power Save Mode.

In the next screen, you will have the following options:

  • With Sleep Mode, you will be able to set the amount of time before the camera puts itself to sleep.
  • With Sleep Mode (Wi-Fi), you can make the LUMIX GH6 automatically go into sleep mode 15 minutes after being disconnected from Wi-Fi.
  • With Auto LVF/Monitor Off, you can set the amount of time before the live view finder/monitor screen will turn itself off. Keep in mind that the camera will remain turned on even if its screen is turned off in this mode.
  • With the Power Save LVF Shooting mode, you can put the camera in sleep mode when you are only using the control panel or when recording has been set to be on standby.

With the camera in Sleep Mode, Sleep Mode (Wi-Fi) or Power Save LVF Shooting Mode, you can turn it back on any by pressing down on the shutter button halfway. Alternatively, you can set the camera power switch to Off and then back to On.

To wake the Panasonic LUMIX GH6 from Auto LVF/Monitor Off, you can press any button on the camera.

5. It is also important to note that the batter will drain even if the camera isn’t turned on.

So, if you don’t plan on using the LUMIX GH6 for a long time, Panasonic recommends removing the battery from the battery compartment of the camera.

6. Panasonic also recommends that you charge the battery of the camera at least once a year even if you haven’t been using it.

7. If the battery is still draining faster than expected, then you might want to consider replacing it. This is because that, over time, the rechargeable battery will hold less and less capacity due to wear and tear.

If you are looking for a replacement, then Panasonic recommend getting the DMW-BLK22. If you are interested, you can purchase the battery pack on Amazon with the following link:

While the Panasonic LUMIX GH6 also supports the DMW-BLF19, the capacity for this battery is much lower. Not to mention that some features are limited if you decide to use this battery as opposed to DMW-BLK22.

How to fix PS5 M.2 SSD overheating issues

If you are using a M.2 solid state drive for your PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, then you may get the following warning:

  • Temperature Alert
  • Your M.2 SSD is too hot.
  • Close the game, turn off your PS5, and wait until the temperature goes down.

To see how you can potentially fix this overheating issue with the expansion storage drive of your Sony game console, you can take a look at this troubleshooting article at Seeking Tech.

1. The first step we recommend taking is to follow the instructions laid out in the Temperature Alert message.

So, if you PlayStation 5 doesn’t automatically shut down, then you need to turn it off. You then need to leave the console turned off until cools down, which should take at least 15 minutes in most cases.

2. While your system is shut down, you may want to consider removing the metal cover of the M.2 docking bay.

By doing so, heat coming from the expansion solid state drive will dissipate a lot faster. On the other hand, the opened bay will be exposed to dust buildup.

To remove the metal cover, you need to take the following steps:

  • Turn off your PS5 system if you haven’t done so already.
  • Remove the stand, unplug any cables and detach any accessories you have connected to the console.
  • Lay your console down so that the side with the PS logo is at the bottom. The back side of the system, which contain the HDMI and power ports, you should facing you.
  • From your perspective, place your right hand on the bottom right corner of the top-most outer case.
  • Place your left hand on the upper left corner of the top-most outer case.
  • With your right hand, life the bottom right corner of the outer case.
  • Slide the top-most outer case off to the left side.
  • Using a cross head screwdriver, remove the screw holding the M.2 docking bay metal cover in place.
  • You can then remove the metal cover.
  • Afterwards, reattach the top-most outer case by sliding it back in starting from the left side.
  • As long as you occasionally clean dust from inside the console, however, then removing the M.2 metal cover will help fix the overheating issues caused by the M.2 storage drive.

3. You should also make sure that you have a heat sink or heat spreader installed.

If you don’t have one, then we recommend picking up the Sabrent M.2 NVMe Heat Sink for PlayStation 5, which should fit a majority of PS5-compatible solid state drives.

If you are interested, you can purchase the heat sink on Amazon with this link. (#CommissionsEarned).

4. Furthermore, you need to make sure that you keep your PS5 or PS5 Digital Edition system cool as well by giving it plenty of open-air space to help with heat dissipation. Covering your console and/or keeping it cooped up in an enclosed space will cause the internal heat to rise.
