How to update the Panasonic LUMIX GH6 firmware

Updating the firmware of the Panasonic LUMIX GH6 mirrorless camera and its attached accessories may help improve performance, fix bugs as well as add new features.

To see how you can properly download and install the new firmware for these devices, you can take a look at this tutorial from Seeking Tech.

1. Before you start, make sure you have a memory card already formatted for your Panasonic LUMIX GH6.

To find out how you can insert, format and safely eject a card for this camera, you can take a look at this article.

2. You should also make sure that you have a way to connect the memory card to a computer.

3. On your computer, download the new firmware ZIP file. You can find the official firmware website for Panasonic cameras with this link.

4. If the memory card is still inserted into the camera, make sure you remove it.

5. Connect the memory card to the same computer.

6. Extract the file from the new firmware ZIP file to the root directory of the memory card. There should be a BIN file or a LIN file.

Make sure you only have one of the aforementioned files. Otherwise, having multiple firmware files on the same root directory may cause the update to fail.

7. Once the transfer has been completed, disconnect the memory card from the computer.

8. Insert the memory card into the camera.

9. On your LUMIX GH6, make sure that you have sufficient battery life. Otherwise, the camera may turn off during the middle of the update, which may end up causing issues.

10. Once you are ready, press the menu button on your camera.

11. Afterwards, head over to Setup.

12. In the Settings menu, you will need to select Others.

13. You then need to select Firmware Version.

14. Next, you can select Software Info to check the current firmware versions of your Panasonic LUMIX GH6 mirrorless camera as well as any other supported accessories you have attached.

15. To start the update, select Firmware Update from the Firmware Version menu.

16. Select Yes to continue.

17. During the update progress, do not turn off the camera, remove the battery or remove the memory card.

Otherwise, you could end up causing damage to the LUMIX GH6, memory card and/or other attached accessories.

18. Once the camera and/or its accessories have been updated, you can select the Software Info option from the aforementioned Firmware Version menu in order to see the update firmware versions.
