How to unblock websites with the eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 and eero Pro 6E

The eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 and eero Pro 6E are capable of blocking websites. If you want to unblock blacklisted sites from these Wi-Fi 6 mesh routers, then you can take a look at this tutorial from Seeking Tech to see how to properly do so.

Before we start, we should note that, while this article is based on the eero 6 series, it should be applicable to the other eero routers as well.

How to unblock websites with eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E

If you are using only one profile on your eero account, then you can unblock a website on your eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E by taking the following steps:

1. If you haven’t done so already, start by opening the eero app or your smartphone or mobile device.

2. If opening the application doesn’t automatically sign you into your eero account, then make you log in before you continue.

3. Once you have access to your eero account, tap Discover.

4. Next, you need to tap the eero Secure option.

5. You then need to tap Block & Allow Sites.

6. You should see a list of websites that are currently blocked by your eero router. Here, you need to select the website that you want to be whitelisted.

7. After selecting a site, you should see a notification. Select Delete Site to continue.

8. A confirmation message should then appear. Select Delete Site again to remove the website from the blocked list.

How to unblock websites with eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E if you have multiple profiles

If you have multiple profiles in your eero account, then you need to do following in order to unblock a website on your eero router:

1. Open the eero app and the sign into your eero account.

2. Next, you need to select the profile in which you want to unblock the website for.

3. Afterwards, tap Block & Allow Sites.

4. You then need to select a blocked site from the list.

5. After selecting a website, you need to select Delete Site.

6. You need to select Delete Site again when you see “Are you sure you want to delete this site?” message.

After removing the website from the Blocked list, you should be able to access it. With that said, the eero router may end up taking several hours to whitelist the site.

To potentially speed up this process, you can power cycle your eero network. In order to do so, unplug all your routers from the power outlet, wait for at least 30 seconds and then re-plug them back in. Next, you simply wait until your eero network goes back online again before you test to see if you are able to access the previously blocked website.

What to do if your eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E isn’t blocking a website

You can use your eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E to block any websites that you or someone else in your household don’t want to visit.

If your router isn’t blocking a site that you have previously blacklisted, then you can take a look at this troubleshooting article to see how you can fix this issue.

While this guide is based on the eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 and eero Pro 6E, it should also be applicable to the older eero routers as well.

1. The first step we recommend taking is to simply wait. While your eero may start blocking a website almost immediately, this process can also take several hours.

2. If, after waiting several hours, you can still access a blocked site, then you can try clearing the cache of the web browser or web browser app.

3. You can also try power cycling your eero network. In order to properly do so, you need to take the following steps:

  • Unplug all of your eero routers from the power outlet.
  • Next, you should wait for at least 30 seconds.
  • You can then re-plug all the routers back into the power outlet.
  • Wait for the eeros to boot back up and connect to the internet.
  • Try to visit the blocked website to see if you are still able to access it.

4. If you have multiple profiles on your eero network, then you need to make sure that the blocked website is applied to the appropriate profile.

In order to find which sites have been blocked for a specific profile, you need to do the following:

  • Open the eero app and then sign into your eero network.
  • On the home screen, tap a profile.
  • Next, you need to tap Block & Allow Sites
  • You should now see a list of websites that should be blocked on the profile.

5. It is also important to note that if you have a website that is on both the Blocked and Allowed lists, then you will still have access to the website as the Allowed list will override the Blocked list.

In this case, you need to remove the website you are trying to block from the Allowed list.

6. Furthermore, you should make sure that you input domain name correctly when adding it to the Blocked list.

To block an entire domain, you need to input domain.com. Keep in mind that some sites may have multiple domains; therefore, you may need to input multiple variations.

To block a subdomain, you need to input subdomain.domain.com. This will only block the subdomain as you will still have access to the main domain. Some sites may have multiple subdomains, which mean that you may need to input all variations to completely block the subdomains.

If you try to input a certain page from a domain such as domain.com/page, then eero will read it as domain.com.

You should also make sure that you don’t put “www” before the domain name as the eero router will view it as a subdomain. As a result, you will still be able to access the blocked website if you are visiting it as domain.com.

How to set up eero 6 network without a mobile data connection

To quickly setup your eero network, Amazon recommends using smartphone or mobile device that is connected to a cellular network. If you can’t use a mobile connection during the setup process, then you can take a look at this tutorial to see how you can work around this limitation.

Before we start, it should be noted that this article is based on the eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 and eero Pro 6E. With that said, these instructions should be applicable to the older versions of the eero router.

Why you need cellular data to set up eero network

When you are setting your eero network, you will need to remove your existing Wi-Fi network. Without a mobile data connection on your smartphone or device, you won’t be able to easily register your eero router over the internet through the eero app.

How to set up the eero network without using mobile data

If your phone or mobile device can’t use a cellular network to connect to the internet, then you can still register and setup your eero router by taking the following steps:

1. To start off, you need to connect your eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E to your old router through an Ethernet cable.

If you already remove your old router, then you should connect the old router back into your modem. Afterwards, you need to connect the old router to your eero router.

By connecting your eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E to your existing router, you will create a double NAT connection, which should allow you to register your eero over the internet without having to use any mobile data.

2. Next, go through the setup process to register and then activate the eero networking the eero app on your smartphone or mobile device.

3. Once the eero network has been established, you can remove the old router from your home networking ecosystem.

In order to do so, you need to do the following:

  • Disconnect the Ethernet cable connecting the old router to your eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E.
  • You should also disconnect the Ethernet cable connecting the old router to your modem.
  • Next, you need to unplug the power adapter from your modem.
  • Wait for at least 30 seconds.
  • Plug the power adapter back into your modem.
  • Wait until your modem is fully rebooted. This process can take several minutes.
  • Connect your eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E directly to the modem by using an Ethernet cable.
  • If you are using a standalone modem, then you don’t need to do anything else.
  • If you have modem/router hybrid device, then you need to put it in bridge mode in order to get the best internet connection speeds when using your eero network. In order to do so, you need to look at the user manual for your modem/router hybrid to see how you can enable the bridge feature.

How to fix ‘poor connection’ issue when adding eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E

When setting up your eero network with the eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E, you may get a message on your eero app saying that you have a “poor connection.” You can take a look at this troubleshooting guide from Seeking Tech to see how you can potentially fix this problem.

1. During the setup process, make sure that your eero routers are close to each other. Each node should be no more than 50 feet apart from the closest node.

2. After setting up your router, you can spread out each node.

For optimal placement, make sure that each eero is no more than 50 feet apart. The closer each node are to each other, the better connection the you should be.

3. Floors, walls and other solid objects that block the direct line of sight between different nodes will weaken the Wi-Fi signal. Heavy metal objects, especially, will block out a lot of the Wi-Fi connection strength.

Therefore, we recommend that you avoid as many of these roadblocks as possible when placing your routers.

4. Other wireless devices outside of your network may also interfere with the Wi-Fi connection.

To prevent any potential interference, we recommend that you keep the other wireless devices at least 20 to 30 feet away from your eero routers.

5. Do not place your eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E inside of a cabinet, closet and any other enclosed space as the Wi-Fi signal may have a hard time passing through the barriers.

Instead, you should give your routers plenty of open air in order to get the best connection.

6. In terms of height, you should place your router around the middle for the optimal speeds. Avoid putting your eero on the ground.

7. You should also avoid covering your eero nodes as doing so may hinderer the Wi-Fi strengths.

8. Do not place the eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E on a soft surface as the bottom of your router needs the space in order to provide a better connection.

9. If you are still getting the poor connection message, then you might want to try power cycling your entire eero network.

In order to do so, you can take the following steps:

  • Unplug the power adapter from your modem.
  • Unplug the power adapters from all the eero routers you have connected to your eero network.
  • Wait for at least 30 seconds.
  • Plug the power adapter back into your modem.
  • Wait for the modem to reboot itself. This may take several minutes.
  • Plug the power adapters back into all your eero routers.
  • Wait for all your routers to reboot. This may also take several minutes.

10. If the eero app is still showing the poor connection message, then we recommend that you contact the support team at eero for additional support.

Alternatively, you can use the Ethernet ports to connect your eero routers. With a wired connection, you should get faster and more stable internet speeds when compared to using Wi-Fi.

How to fix ‘no eero found’ issue when adding eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E

If you are trying to add a new eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E to your home network, then the eero app may show a “no eero found” message.

To see how you can potentially fix this specific problem when setting up the device, you can take a look at this troubleshooting article at Seeking Tech.

1. The first step you can take is to make sure that the new router is plugged into the power outlet as it needs to be turned on in order to be registered. You can also try plugging it into a different power outlet as the one you are currently using could be defective.

2. You should also use the power adapter that came with your eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E. Otherwise, a different adapter may end up causing issues with your new router.

3. Make sure that the Bluetooth connection is turned on for the smartphone or mobile device that has the eero app installed.

4. If you have multiple eero routers already installed, then you need to make sure that the new eero router is within 50 feet of the closest node.

5. The smartphone or mobile device should also be within the Bluetooth range of your new eero router.

We recommend moving the phone or mobile device to as close to the router as possible. You should also avoid having solid objects blocking the direct line of sight, as well as any other nearby wireless devices, as these may interfere with the Bluetooth connection.

You can tell that eero is within range of your smartphone or mobile device as the LED indicator of the router should be blinking blue.

5. You can also try hard resetting your eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E by pressing and holding the reset button on the router. Keep holding the reset button until your router starts to blink red, which indicates that it is going through a hard reset.

6. Power cycling your new eero router may also help fix the “no eero found” issue.

In order to do so, unplug the router from its power adapter. Afterwards, you need to may for 30 seconds at a minimum.

Once at least 30 seconds have passed, you need to plug the power adapter back into the router.

Next, wait for the eero router to fully reboot before trying to add it to your home network again.

7. If you are still getting the same message, then you can try to manually register your router by doing the following:

  • On the eero app on your smartphone or mobile device, try to add the new eero router.
  • If your phone or mobile device can’t locate the router through Bluetooth, then you need to tap the “Set up using serial number.”
  • Next, you need to locate the serial number for the eero router, which you can find at the bottom side of your unit.
  • Enter the serial number into the eero app.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions of the app to complete the setup for your new eero router.

What’s the difference between the eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 and eero Pro 6E?

How to fix eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 and eero Pro 6E setup issues

The eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 and eero Pro 6E are Wi-Fi 6 mesh routers that were made by Amazon. If you are having issues trying to setup the eero network and/or adding an eero code to an existing network, then you can take a look at this troubleshooting article from Seeking Tech.

1. The first step we recommend taking is to make sure you have Bluetooth enabled on your smartphone or mobile device that has the eero app installed. This will make the setup process a lot easier than having to manually input the serial number for each router.

2. Amazon recommends that you add one eero router at a time when setting up the eero network.

If you currently have multiple unregistered nodes connected, then you are able to identify which node is currently being added to the network by looking at the LED indicator, which should be showing solid green.

3. Make sure your smartphone or mobile device is within the Bluetooth range of your eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E. Otherwise, the eero app won’t be able to detect the node.

You can avoid this potential issue by manually inputting the serial number of your router, which you can find at the bottom of the device.

4. Furthermore, you should also make sure that your new eero router isn’t too far away from the closest router. The eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 and eero Pro 6E have a maximum wireless communication range of 50 feet between two nodes.

5. You can also power cycle both the modem and eero router. To do so, unplug both from the power outlets and then wait for at least 30 seconds. Afterwards, you can plug the two networking devices back in and wait for both to completely reboot.

6. Hard resetting the eero router that can’t connect to your home network may also help. In order to do so, you need to take the following steps:

  • First off, make sure that the eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E you are having trouble with is connected to the power outlet.
  • Next, you need to hold the reset button located on the router until you see the LED indicator blinks red.
  • Afterwards, try to add the router to your network through the eero app.

7. If you are having issues trying to a secondary eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E, then you can try taking the following steps:

  • Connect the new eero router the gateway eero, which is the one that is connected directly to the modem through an Ethernet cable.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the registration for the new eero.
  • Disconnect the Ethernet cable that is connecting new eero from the gateway eero.
  • Place the new eero router within the recommend range, which is no more than 50 feet, of the closest eero.
  • After putting the new eero router in a new location, you can test the wireless signal strength for that specific node through the eero app.

What to do if you can’t connect to the closest eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E

If you have multiple eero routers connected, then the device that you are trying to connect to the eero network may not link to the closest router. To see how you can potentially fix this issue, then you can take a look at this troubleshooting guide.

Before we begin, it should be noted that this article is based on the eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E. With that said, these potential fixes should also apply to the older eero wireless routers as well.

Why your device can’t connect to the nearest eero node

Your device will most likely try to automatically connect to what it determines to be the best router option. The selection is dependent on how the device treats Wi-Fi handoffs and roaming.

While you may still get good internet speeds in some cases, you may see slower speeds in other situations if you are using an eero router that is further away.

How to make your device connect to the closest eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E

In order to force your device to connect to the nearest eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E node, you can try doing the following:

1. The first fix you can to try is to refresh the internet connection on the device you are trying to connect to the eero network.

You can do so by restarting the device. You can do so by disabling the internet connection on the other device and then re-enabling again to see if it can connect to the closest node.

2. If you still can’t connect to the nearest eero, then you can try doing the following:

  • Restart the eero node that you want to disconnect your device from.
  • When the other eero is restarting, move the device closer to the eero node that you want to connect to.
  • Your device should now be connected to the closest eero router.

3. You can also try power cycling your eero nodes by unplugging the routers from the power outlet. Afterwards, we recommend moving the device that you are trying to connect to the eero network next to the desired eero node.

Wait for at least 30 seconds after unplugging the router from the power outlets before you plug them back in again.

4. It is also a good idea that you keep the firmwares for your eero routers, as well as the device you are trying to connect to the eero network, all updated to the latest versions. New updates may make it easier to connect your device to the closest router.

5. If you still can’t connect your device to the nearest eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E node, then we recommend contacting the eero support team to get additional support.

How to switch between 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz frequencies with eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 and eero Pro 6E

The eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 and eero Pro 6E support both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless frequencies. So, is it possible to switch between these Wi-Fi connections?

You can find out in this guide at Seeking Tech.

2.4 GHz vs. 5 GHz frequency for eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 and eero Pro 6E

If you are using the 2.4 GHz, then you will get a wider coverage but slower Wi-Fi connection with your eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E router. If you are using the 5 GHz frequency instead, then you have a shorter Wi-Fi coverage but faster connection.

So, if the connecting device is closer to your router, then it is recommended that you use the 5 GHz frequency. If the connecting device is much farther away, then the 2.4 GHz frequency may end up being the better option. We recommend that you test out both frequencies, if possible, to determine which one is the most suitable when it comes to getting the most stable and fastest internet connection speeds.

Can you disable 5 GHz on your eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E?

There is currently on way to completely disable the 5 GHz frequency on your eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E. Instead, your device will automatically determine which frequency to use depending on the device that is connected to the eero network.

If the connecting device supports both the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz frequencies, then you may be able to switch between the two connection types on that device. By doing so, you should also be able to change the wireless connection frequency to your eero router as well.

How to temporary disable 5 GHz on eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E

If you are having issues trying to connect a device that uses only the 2.4 GHz frequency to your eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E, then you can temporarily turn off the 5 GHz frequency by taking the following steps:

1. Start by opening the eero app installed on your smartphone or mobile device.

2. Sign into your eero account if the app doesn’t automatically log you in.

3. After logging into your account, select the Settings icon located on the bottom right side of the screen.

4. Inside of the Settings menu, you need to select Troubleshooting.
