How to fix Sony A80K, A90K, A95K, X80K, X85K, X90K, X95K and Z9K random shutdown issues

When using your Sony A80K, A90K, A95K, X80K, X85K, X90K, X95K or Z9K, your television set may randomly restart or shutdown on its own.

To see how you can prevent your TV from seemingly turning off by itself, you can take a look at this tutorial from Seeking Tech.

1. The first step we recommend taking it to check if the power cord of your television set hasn’t been damaged in any way.

2. You may also want to plug your TV into another power outlet to see if the random reboots and/or shutdowns go away.

3. The Sleep Timer may also be causing your TV to turn off on its own.

In order to disable this feature, we recommend taking the following steps:

  • Press the home button on the remote for your A80K, A90K, A95K, X80K, X85K, X90K, X95K or Z9K.
  • In the Settings section, select Timers.
  • You then need to select Sleep Timer.
  • Finally, make sure that Sleep Timer is set to Off.

4. You television set may also be turning off due to the Idle TV Standby. In order to disable it, you need to do the following:

  • On your TV remote, press the home button.
  • You then need to head over to Settings.
  • Afterwards, go to Power/Eco.
  • Next, select Idle TV Standby.
  • Make sure that the Idle TV Standby feature is set to Off.

5. If your TV is connected to another device wirelessly or over a wired connection, then makes sure the other device isn’t causing the TV to turn off.

6. You can also try doing a soft reset on the A80K, A90K, A95K, X80K, X85K, X90K, X95K or Z9K by pressing and holding the power button on your remote for around 5 seconds. Afterwards, let go of the power button and the TV should reboot itself.

If the TV doesn’t turn on, press the power button on the remote again to power it back on.

6. If a soft reboot did not get rid of the random restarts or shutdowns, then you can try power cycling your Sony television set.

In order to do so, you need to take the following steps:

  • Turn off your A80K, A90K, A95K, X80K, X85K, X90K, X95K or Z9K.
  • After shutting down the TV, unplug its power cord from the power outer.
  • Next, you need to wait for at least 2 minutes.
  • After waiting, plug the power cord of your television set back into the power outlet.
  • Turn your TV back on again.

7. A firmware update for the A80K, A90K, A95K, X80K, X85K, X90K, X95K or Z9K may also help improve the stability of your television set.
