I recently got to play around an hour of The End of the Sun on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by IMGN.PRO. You can find my gameplay video of this open-world adventure game below:
You can also read about my impressions below:
Pros:
- Unique Slavic fantasy open-world to explore.
- Compelling story based on a lot of folklore.
- Time-travelling elements add unique twist to the story and gameplay.
Cons:
- The frame rate is very inconsistent.
Overall:
The End of the Sun is an adventure game that takes place in a Slavic fantasy world where you can explore the open-world map through multiple timelines.
The story is based on a lot of Slavic folklore; so, it’s very compelling and enlightening if you aren’t familiar with their culture. The developers did a great job with its world design in that regard.
The time traveling also adds twists to the gameplay and story. You will need to frequently travel across different years to access new areas and continue the non-linear story.
Unfortunately, The End of the Sun is plagued by frame rate issues. Although you can unlock the frame rate, the game has a hard time keeping up with a consistent 60 FPS. It can really drop where there is a lot of foliage and/or special effects (like smoke and fire) on the screen.
Thankfully, being a slow-paced adventure game, an inconsistent frame rate doesn’t really affect the gameplay. If you are looking for a unique adventure game, and learn about Slavic culture while playing it, then you should definitely give The End of the Sun a try.
