How to make Demon’s Souls on PS5 easier with save file exploits

Just like the original, the Demon’s Souls remake for PlayStation 5 is a hard game, especially if you are new to the genre.

If you are having a difficult time, you can follow this guide to find a few save file exploits that will make the experience much easier.

Before we start with the exploits, we will first explain how saving works in Demon’s Souls on PS5. You will also learn about what you can do with the save file.

About Auto-Saving in Demon’s Souls on PS5

In Demon’s Souls, you only get one save file per character.

The PS5 game features an auto-saving mechanic that will save your progress anytime something meaningful happens in your playthrough, which includes dying, killing an enemy, using the Archstone, acquiring an item, using an item, changing equipment and more.

How to upload Demon’s Souls save file to the cloud on PS5

5. The PlayStation 5 will then show a warning that it will close any opened game or application. If you already have a save file on the console storage, you will also get a warning about overwriting the existing save.

6. Now that you know how saves work in Demon’s Souls on PlayStation 5, let’s get to the save exploits.

What can you do with save exploits in Demon’s Souls

Just like the original, the PS5 remake is punishing. If you die anytime in a level, you will have to restart all the way back at the beginning. The enemies in the level will also get harder if you die while in body form.

Not to mention that, every time you die, you will drop your souls, which acts as both currency and experience points. If you don’t pick up these dropped souls before dying again, you will lose them permanently.

With these save exploits, you don’t have to worry about replaying the same levels or losing your souls as you can simply reload to your previous save state.

Save Exploit #1

The first save exploit method is the slowest but also the safest.

You can perform it by doing the following steps:

1. Create a manual save file. You will be loading back to this save. So, make sure that your character is in a safe location, in good health in addition to having the right equipment and items. This is especially important if you are creating a save file just before a boss or tough enemy encounter.

2. Upload the manual file to the cloud from the system menu.

3. Play the game normally. Anytime you feel like you want to return to the manual save file you uploaded to the cloud (such as wanting to reload to outside of a boss fog door instead or having to go through the entire level again), you can download the save file using the method we mentioned above.

Save Exploit #2

The second save exploit is faster than having to redownload your save from the cloud although it might not work as well and could end up corrupting the save file.

If you are still interested in this exploit, you can take the following steps:

1. Create a manual save. As an extra precaution, we recommend uploading this save to the cloud in case something goes wrong.

2. Play the game normally until you die. As soon as you realize that you are dying, or about to die, quickly hold the PS button on your DualSense controller until the Home Screen main menu shows up.

3. In the main menu of the PS5, press the options button to bring up a pop-up menu for Demon’s Souls. Choose “Close Game” to exit Demon’s Souls without saving.

Keep in mind that the game will still be running when you are using the system menu. Thus, you need to close the game as fast as possible in order to prevent the auto-save from overwriting your previous save data.

4. If done correctly, you should be in the same manual save state as before when you reload.

How to duplicate items in Demon’s Souls on PS5

Although the duplication glitch from the original PlayStation 3 version of Demon’s Souls has been removed in the Demon’s Souls on PlayStation 5, there is another method to duplicate items in the newer version.

You can find out how to do so in this guide at Seeking Tech.

Requirements

In order to duplicate items in the PlayStation 5 version of Demon’s Souls, you will need to play online cooperatively with another player.

The player that is holding the item you want to be duplicated also needs to be able to back up their save files, which can only be down by uploading to the cloud on the PlayStation 5.

In order to play online and back up save files to the cloud, you need to be subscribed to the PlayStation Plus. If you aren’t already a member, you can pick up a 1-year PS Plus subscription on Amazon with this link. (#CommissionsEarned).

What Can Be Duplicated in Demon’s Souls on PS5

The following can be duplicated in the PS5 version of Demon’s Souls:

  • Ammunition
  • Armor
  • Consumables
  • Projectiles
  • Shields
  • Stones
  • Weapons

What Can’t Be Duplicated in Demon’s Souls on PS5

The following can’t be duplicated in the remake:

  • Key Items
  • Rings
  • Spells
  • Souls

How to Play Online Co-Op in Demon’s Souls

Playing online co-op in Demon’s Souls is a little obtuse. First, both you and the other player have to play through the prologue and then beat the Boletarian Palace (1-1) world alone. Afterwards, you will get the Blue Eye Stone, an item that allows you to be summoned by another player while you are in soul form.

To play co-op, one of the players needs to be in body form while the other needs to be in soul form. We recommend the player holding the item you want to be duplicated to be in soul form to make the duplication process easier.

You will be in body form when your heatlh bar is completely full. You can get this from by defeating a boss, helping others beat a boss in soul form or by using the Stone of Ephemeral Eyes item.

You will be in soul form when your maximum health bar is reduced. You can get to this form by simply dying.

Normally, the two players need to be at a similar level in order to play online co-op. The remake bypasses this requirement when you set a password.

To do, you can head to the in-game menu and take the following steps:

1. Navigate to “Settings.”

2. Under “Settings,” select “Network” on the left tab and then “Password Requirement” on the right side. Set up your password and make sure the other player setup the same password on their side.

3. Once the above is done, the player in the body form and the player in the soul form need to be in the same area. The player in the soul form should then use the Blue Eye Stone to put down a marker. Afterwards, the player in body form can use the marker to summon the other player.

How to Duplicate Items in Demon’s Souls on PS5

To duplicate items in Demon’s Souls on PlayStation 5, you need to take the following steps:

1. Make sure the item or items you want to duplicated is in the inventory of the player who is in soul form. That player then needs to back up their save file to the cloud. To do so, you need to head to “Settings” from the main system menu and then select “Saved Data and Game/App Settings,” “Saved Data (PS5),” “Console Storage” and, finally, “Upload to Cloud Storage.”

2. Afterwards, the player in the body form can summon the player in soul form.

3. The player in soul form can then drop the item or items that they want to be duplicated for the player in body form to pick up.

4. The player in soul form can then exit the game and go back to the main menu. From there, they should go to “Settings,” “Saved Data and Game/App Settings,” “Saved Data (PS5), “Could Storage” and then “Download to Console Storage” in order to go back to their previous save file.

5. If done correctly, the player in human form will get the items while the player in soul form will revert back to their previous save file where the items are still in their possession. As a result, you have duplicate items.

6. You can repeat the same process over again to add more of the same item. Keep in mind that the player in human form can also drop items for the player soul form to pick up. Just make sure that the player in human form also back up their save file if they want to keep the same items.

How to Duplicate Ceramic Coins in Demon’s Souls

You can also duplicate the ceramic coin, which is a new item in the Demon’s Souls Remake.

To do so, take the following steps:

1. The player in soul form should have the ceramic coin in their inventory and then back up their save file to the cloud.

2. The player in body form need to summon the player in soul form at Shrine of Storms (4-1). In this level, they need to go to a tree with a giant crow nest sitting on top. There, you will encounter Sparkly the Crow.

3. The player in soul form needs to drop the ceramic coin next to the tree base. If done correctly, Sparkly will say “Sparkly, happy, happy!” If the ceramic coin is dropped in any other location, then it will be shattered.

4. Once that item has been correctly dropped, the player in body form needs to save and exit while the player in soul form is still present. From the main menu, the player in body form can then choose to continue to load back into the same spot. From there, you should be able to pick up the ceramic coin from the tree base.

5. The player in soul form can exit their game and then download their previous save file from the cloud to get their ceramic coin back.

6. Repeat the process until you have the required number of coins that will trigger Sparkly the Crow to give you a Rusted Key to unlock a secret area that was added in the Demon’s Souls Remake.

Demon’s Souls not loading on PS5? Here’s how you can fix this error

When you try to launch the Demon’s Souls remake on the PlayStation 5, you may run into an error in which the game may be stuck in the starting screen.

If you are encountering this issue, you can check out this guide at Seeking Tech to find some potential fixes.

How to safely close Demon’s Souls when it isn’t launching

Before trying to shut down or reset your PlayStation 5 due to Demon’s Souls freezing at startup, we recommend manually closing the game as a safety precaution so that you won’t damage your system as Sony doesn’t recommend turning off the console when the internal storage drive is either loading or saving data.

To manually close the game, hold the PS button on your DualSense to bring up the Home Screen main menu.

From there, navigate to the Demon’s Souls icon and then press the Options button on your controller to bring up a sub-menu.

The first option available should be “Close Game.”

Once you manually closed Demon’s Souls, you can check out the following potential fixes.

Potential Fix #1: Resetting the PlayStation 5

The most successful fix for this issue is by simply restarting your PS5 system.

To do it with your controller, press the PS button on your DualSense to bring up the Control Center quick menu.

From here, navigate down to the Controls section at the bottom and then go right to the “Power” option. Select “Power” and then “Restart PS5” to reset the PS5.

Afterwards, try launching the game to see if it will go past the initial splash screen.

Potential Fix #2: Resuming via Activities Card

If the aforementioned fix did not work, try rebooting your PS5 again.

Instead of launching Demon’s Souls from the main menu, press down twice to access the activities cards.

Choose one the cards and then press the square button on your PS5 controller to launch the game.

Potential Fix #3

If you have another game aside from Demon’s Souls in your Game Library, you can also try launching that game to see if it boots up correctly.

If it does, you can manually close the other game and then try launching Demon’s Souls again to see if that works.

Potential Fix #4

If none of the above fixes work, you can try completely shutting down the PlayStation 5 system.

To do so with your game controller, press the PS button to bring up the Control Center quick menu and then press down to go to the Controls section.

From there, go right until you see the “Power” option. Select “Power” and then “Turn Off PS5” to power down the system.

If you are playing Demon’s Souls on disc, you might want to eject it from the disc drive before powering the system off. You can then put the disc back into the system when turning it back on.

Once you power your PS5 back on, you can try testing to see if Demon’s Souls will load past the starting screen.

Potential Fix #5

If the game still won’t start up properly, then you can try deleting and reinstalling the game.

To delete, go to the game from the Home Screen main menu and then press the options button on your DualSense.

Doing so will bring up a sub-menu where one of the options is to delete the game.

After deletion, you can insert the game disc to start the installation process. If you have a digital copy, you can re-download the game from your Game Library menu.

After the game is done installing, press the option button to being up the aforementioned sub-menu and then select “Check for Update” to download the latest patch if there is any available.

Once all of the above is accomplished, try relaunching the game to see if it still flocks up during the initial boot up.

If none of the solutions work, you can try contacting Sony about a potential hardware issue with your PlayStation 5 system.
