Silverpine Creek on PS5 Pro: First Impressions

I recently got a chance to play around an hour of Silverpine Creek on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by GLACIER LTD.

You can find my gameplay video below:

Check out my impressions below:

Pros:

  • Innovative use of a microphone.
  • Dreary Atmosphere.
  • A lot of jump scares.

Cons:

  • Confusing in-game map.

Overall

Silverpine Creek is roguelike first-person horror game where you explore an abandoned village. You will be constantly stalked by a ghastly witch.

The only real “weapon” you have against the enemy is a camera, which temporary dissolves the witch if you get a good enough snap.

While optional, the developer highly recommends playing Silverpine Creek with a microphone, either with a headset or by using the mic of the DualSense.

This will let the game detect if you are making any noise in real life. If you are, then the witch will start to home in on your location. It you make too much noise, she will instantly kill you.

Another notable component of what makes Silverpine Creek so scary is the dreary atmosphere. There is a general sense of doom with thick fog that encompasses abandoned buildings.

The only issue I have is that the in-game map can be confusing to look at because you have no idea which way your character is facing. I often end up going to the wrong place.

Outside of that, Silverpine Creek is a great horror game as long as you don’t mind it being a roguelike.
