I recently got a chance to play through King’s Blade, thanks to a review copy provided by Sometimes You.
You can find my platinum trophy playthrough below:
Trophy Guide and Road Map:
Before starting, I recommend playing the game in Easy to unlock the trophies as fast as possible. Make sure you also play the game with four characters to make the battles easier. You can play with three other real-life players, solo with bots, or any combination of both.
Level 1:
Complete the level to unlock the Level 1 trophy.
Level 2:
During Level 2, you will eventually run into a gigantic rock. Breaking it will reveal a statue, which you need to carry further into the stage until you can drop in on a ground symbol next to a rock with the face of the statue to get the secret technique.
The statue can get damaged and destroyed. To assure safe passage, I recommend clearing out the enemies first before carrying it forward.
Once you unlock the secret technique, finish the rest of the level to unlock the Level 2 and Secret Technique 1 trophies.
Level 3 Part 1:
At the start of Level 3, you will get a short cut scene regarding a odd looking cliff. Once you regain control, jump down the cliff to unlock the Secret Path 1 trophy.
Secret Level 1:
Complete the Secret Level 1 to unlock the Secret Level 1 and Secret Ally 1 trophies.
Level 3 Part 2:
Start Level 3 again but don’t jump into the pit at the beginning. Instead, complete the level normally to unlock the Level 3 trophy.
Level 4:
Complete the level to unlock the Level 4 trophy.
Level 5:
During the level, you will run into two vehicles that you can mount to attack enemies. Destroy these vehicles and then pick up the gems that dropped. There is a door to slight to the left of the second vehicle that will unlock with the gems to get the secret technique.
After getting the technique, complete the rest of the level to unlock the Level 5 and Secret Technique 2 trophies.
Level 6 Part 1:
On Level 6, play through the stage normally until you get to the boss fight. Instead of fighting the boss, jump off to the left to unlock the Secret Path 2 trophy.
Secret Level 2:
Complete the Secret Level 2 to unlock the Secret Level 2 and Secret Ally 2 trophies.
Level 6 Part 2:
Play through Level 6 again and, instead of jumping off of the left side at the end, defeat the boss to unlock the Level 6 trophy.
Level 7:
On Level 7, you will come across dinosaurs that you can ride. You need these to break three rocks that contain gems that will lead to a secret technique.
I recommend not riding the dinosaur until you run into an unbreakable rock. Afterwards, you can backtrack to the mount and then use it to break the rock and collect the gem.
If you ride the dinosaur while you make your way through the stage, it may not survive. So, it’s safer to just clear out the enemies on foot first to ensure a safe passage.
After you collect the three gems from the rocks, head deeper into the stage and you should eventually open the pathway to another secret technique.
Complete the rest of the stage to unlock the Level 7 and Secret Technique 8 trophies.
Level 8, 9 and 10:
Complete the rest of the levels to unlock the remaining trophies:
- Level 8
- Level 9
- Level 10
- King’s Blade Platinum
You can check out my review of King’s Blade below:
Pros:
- Dark fantasy cartoonish visual style.
- Chaotic beat ‘em up.
- Nice variety of characters and stages.
- Co-op and bots support for up to 4 players.
Cons:
- None.
Overall:
King’s Blade is a fantasy beat ‘em up. The game stands up immediately with its dark fantasy cartoonish aesthetics to go along with an epic soundtrack.
In terms of gameplay, the game offers four playable characters at the start. If you find and complete the secret levels, you will also unlock two more. All of the characters play differently and offer their own strengths and weaknesses.
Not to mention that the stages are quite diverse in King’s Blade as there is always some sort of gimmick that sets one level from the rest. The game never really felt repetitive as a result.
While you can play the game alone, it is not recommended as the game is quite difficult by yourself. Thankfully, the game supports both bots and local co-op for up to four players. You can mix and match between real players and computer-controlled ones.
The game truly shines with four players as the screen quickly turn into chaos with your party taking on waves of enemies. If fact, you will often lose track of your character due to the logjam of bodies and special effects. Even so, the four-player mode, especially with four real-life players, is incredibly fun.
Overall, King’s Blade is one of the better indie beat ‘em ups that manage to stand out with its unique art style as well as support for bots. If you enjoy beat ‘em ups, then you should have an amazing time with this game.
