Hippo Hop: Trophy Guide and Mini Review

I recently got a chance to play through Hippo Hop on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by Hyperreality Entertainment.

You can find my platinum trophy walkthrough below:

Trophy Guide and Road Map:

Step 1:

Complete all 14 levels. During your playthrough, try to grab all the drinks and get as high of a score as possible. The following trophies should unlock:

  • Opening Act: Complete Level 1.
  • Second Set: Complete Level 2.
  • Warming Up: Complete Level 3.
  • Finding the Groove: Complete Level 4.
  • Halfway to Midnight: Complete Level 5.
  • Encore Bound: Complete Level 6.
  • Deep Cut: Complete Level 7.
  • Steady Beat: Complete Level 8.
  • One More Set: Complete Level 9.
  • Ten-Set Marathon: Complete Level 10.
  • Late Show: Complete Level 11.
  • After Hours: Complete Level 12.
  • Last Call: Complete Level 13.
  • Last Stretch: Complete Level 14.
  • Final Bow: Complete the game.

Step 2:

You should get most of the miscellaneous trophy naturally. If not, you can unlock them via level select.

Quick on the Draw: Pick up a speed boost cocktail for the first time. This will first appear in Level 1.

Behind Tinted Glass: Pick up a color shield cocktail for the first time. This will first appear in Level 3.

Pocket-Sized: Pick up a shrink cocktail for the first time. This will first appear in Level 5.

Double Time: Pick up a reflex cocktail for the first time. This will first appear in Level 7.

Through the Looking Glass: Pick up a mirror cocktail for the first time. This will first appear in Level 9.

Ice Breaker: Pick up an ice cube for the first time. This will first appear in Level 10.

First Round’s on Me: Collect your first Shooter. These drinks will first appear in Level 13. Collect all five to complete a set.

On Ice: Hold 3 ice cubes at the same time. This can be done in Level 13.

Bottoms Up: Collect every Shooter in a set. This can be done in Level 13.

Last Round: Collect every Shooter Set across the whole game. You will find two sets each in Level 13 and Level 14. Keep in mind that you need to collect all five drinks to complete a set.

The Whole Bar Cart: Pick up every type of drink as well as ice cubes in a single level. This is somewhat glitched as I unlocked it in Level 14 before I picked up every drink.

Three of a Kind: Have 3 different cocktail effects active at the same time. This can be done in Level 13.

Dry Run: Complete a level without collecting a single drink. This can be done easily in Level 1.

Smooth Operator: Stay under the effect of a speed boost for 18 seconds without touching an obstacle. This can be done in Level 4.

Rookie Bumps: Get touched by obstacles 5 times.

Getting Roughed Up: Get touched by obstacles 15 times.

Punch-Drunk: Get touched by obstacles 45 times.

High Roller: Reach a total score of 55,000 points. If you didn’t reach this score by the end of the game, then you should get it easily when you try to earn a silver medal in every level.

Standing Ovation: Earn a Platinum medal on at least one level. This is easily done in Level 1. Try to get all the drinks and avoid all the obstacles.

No Bad Nights: Earn at least a Silver medal on every level. Replay any level that you didn’t at least get a silver medal in from the chapter select menu.

You can find my mini review of Hippo Hop below:

Pros:

  • Unique twist to Flappy Bird.
  • Relaxing jazzy soundtrack.

Cons:

  • Too easy to die from touching the bottom of screen.

Overall:

Hippo Hop is Flappy Bird with a unique twist. Instead of a bird, you play as a flying hippo who must navigate through various instruments.

In order to fly, you press the X button to flap your wings. If you don’t flap your wings, then you will design. You will die if you fall off the screen or stay too far to the left.

The instruments can slow you down and block your path, so you need to navigate around them. If you manage to do so without touching the obstacles, then these will add to your score.

When making your way to the left in Hippo Hop, you will find numerous drinks that either help or hinder your progress. Unpaid bills will also show up, which you can get rid of by blowing them away.

The only real negative to the game is that you can die too easily by touching the bottom of the screen. The game does not give you a chance to flap up once even if the hippo’s body is still visible.

Outside of that, Hippo Hop is a fun and trippy twist to Flappy Bird. Make sure to give it a shot if you are a fan of flying auto-scrollers.
