Dino Land: Trophy Guide and Mini Review

I recently got a chance to play through Dino Land on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by Ratalaika Games.

You can find my platinum trophy walkthrough below:

Trophy Guide and Road Map:

To make getting the trophies significantly easier, enable all cheats.

Stage 1:

After you launch the ball to the table, press the Circle button to transform.

Your first goal is to touch and light up the Dinosaur letters to unlock the NEON trophy.

Next, defeat all the smaller dinosaurs on the table until you see a lightning strike. Stand in the exact location and wait until the lightning to strike again to unlock Multi Dino.

Afterwards, there is a circle next to the BOSS letters on the table. Go there and then press the Circle button to transform back into the ball. Repeat until you are taken to the boss.

To beat the boss, you need to hurt it in your ball form. There is also a smaller enemy that will circle around and kidnap your girlfriend. To stop this from happening, transform into your normal form and then run into the smaller enemy to get it to change direction. Hold down L2 at any time to rewind if you run into trouble.Beating the boss will unlock the CAVE trophy.

Stage 2:

After beating the first boss, press X to head into the second stage. From there, you should notice the circle at the top middle of the table. Turn into a ball form on the circle several times to get to the boss.

Use the same strategy as the first boss to defeat the second boss in order to unlock the OCEAN trophy.

Stage 3:

After beating the second boss, press X to go to the third cage. Here, transform into your normal form and then keep running into the eggs and raptors on the top left. When the egg hatches, you should unlock the Newborn trophy.

Afterwards, keep killing the raptors on the top left until all the lights from the bottom middle arrow are lit up. You then need to turn into ball form and use the paddles to hit the arrow to go to the boss arena. This can be somewhat cumbersome.

For the third boss, follow the same strategy as the first two bosses to unlock the SKY trophy.

Once you beat all three bosses, the platinum should unlock as long as you complete the other miscellaneous trophies. The score-related trophies should unlock naturally as you attempt the other trophies.

You can find my mini review of Dino Land below:

Pros:

  • Transformation mechanic.
  • Rewind and cheats.

Cons:

  • Unclear objectives.

Overall:

Dino Land was originally released Sega Genesis in 1991. Thanks to Ratalaika Games, the pinball game is now available on all major modern platforms through official emulation.

In terms of gameplay, you play as Dino, who can turn himself into a ball that you can bounce around using paddles. What makes this game unique is that you can transform into a dinosaur and walk on the pinball board.

Unfortunately, the objectives are rather obtuse as there aren’t any explanations as to how you get to the boss or get to the next stage.

The good news is that Ratalaika Games added some much-needed quality of life features such as cheats and rewind. For cheats, you can get to the next stage with the press of a button in addition to unlock unlimited transformation.

The rewind feature is especially helpful as failing a boss fight means you have to work your way back to the arena again, which can get rather tedious.

While Dino Land may not be the best pinball game, the quality-of-life features make it a lot more playable and enjoyable. If you are a fan of retro pinball games, then you might want to give this rerelease a try.
