I recently got a chance to play through Fire and Ashes on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by Axyos Games Entertainment.
You can find my platinum trophy walkthrough below:
Trophy Guide and Road Map:
During your playthrough, there are two potentially missable trophies: First Speech and Ruthless Rage.
Shortly after you gain control at the beginning of the game, you should either press triangle or shout into the microphone to unlock First Speech. If you wait until the game tells you to do it, then the trophy may not unlock.
If you are already past that point of no return, finish the rest of the game first. Afterwards, start a new game to unlock First Speech. If you start a new game before beating it, then the new game file will overwrite your current save.
A little bit into the game, you will learn about Finishing Strikes. Soon afterwards, you will find yourself in the sewers with SWAT enemies. During these fights, make sure you have plenty of energy to pull off a finisher. As soon as you see a skull icon pop up, press triangle or shout into the microphone to unlock Ruthless Rage.
If you don’t get it in the sewer, then there will be plenty of other opportunities in the game. Just make sure you have enough energy to trigger the icon.
You can find my mini review of Fire and Ashes below:
Pros:
- Creepy atmosphere with lots of jump scares.
- Satisfying first-person combat.
- Poignant story.
Cons:
- Immersion-breaking enemy pathfinding AI.
Overall:
Unlike a majority of first-person survivor horror games, Fire and Ashes relies heavily on hand-to-hand combat. So, while the game is quite creepy and provides plenty of jump scares, you never really feel helpless.
In fact, the combat overall is pretty satisfying as your punches have a lot of weight. Not to mention that you will also get an electrical device later on that will electrify the heads off of your enemies.
While the story may be a little confusing at first, it does come around towards the second half, providing a rather poignant and somber context.
The only real downside to the game is that some of the patrolling guards will often walk backwards, which really breaks the immersion.
Outside of that, Fire and Ashes is a creepy survivor-horror experience with first-person melee combat. If you are a fan of the Condemned series, then you should love this game.
