I recently got to play around an hour of Dungeons and Degenerate Gamblers, thanks to a review copy provided by Yogscast Games.
You can find my gameplay video below:
You can also check out my first impressions of Dungeons and Degenerate Gamblers below:
Pros:
- Fun and addicting roguelike twist to blackjack.
- Lots of unique cards.
- Multiple routes.
Cons:
- No meta progression.
Overall:
Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers is a roguelike take on blackjack. You goal is to win at the card game and damage your opponent until their HP is depleted.
While it starts out simple, you will eventually acquire more cards that add a different twist to the game. These may directly attack the opponent, such as doubling the card value to make them bust. Some cards can also heal and give you shield.
Some of the cards are quite complicate to understand and may require some trial-and-error. With that said experimenting with these can be quite fun.
As you move through the game, you can give multiple routes, some may lead to shops and other special events to give you more cards, while others will lead to entirely new locations that provide a new set of opponents.
The only real downside is the lack of any meta progression. Once you lose all your HP, your runs end and you have to start all over again without retaining anything.
Outside of that, Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers is a fun and addicting roguelike take on blackjack. If you are a fan of deck builders, then this game should be right up your alley.
