How to fix ‘unplug charger’ and ‘Liquid or debris in USB port’ issues with Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro

When using the USB-C port of your Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro, you may see the following errors messages:

  • “Liquid or debris in USB port”
  • “Unplug charger”

2. Next, you should inspect the male connector of the USB-C charging cable or USB-C headphones. If you are using a charging cable, make sure that the other end of the cable is disconnected from the power source as well.

If the male connector is wet, then you should let it air dry in room temperature. Do not use any heating source, like a hair blow dryer, as you could cause damage to the cable.

If you see some debris stuck inside the male connector, then point the connector downwards and then gently tap it to try to knock the debris out. You should not stick anything inside the connector as you could damage it.

4. If the USB-C charging cable or USB-C headphones look damaged, then you can try using a different charging cable or USB-C headphones.

If the other connection works without issue, then the “Liquid or debris in USB port” and/or “Unplug charger” messages are only related to the damaged USB-C charging cable or USB-C headphones.

5. The “Liquid or debris in USB port” message may still appear even though you make sure that both the USB-C port of your Pixel 6/Pixel 6 Pro as well as the USB –C male connector of your charging cable/headphones are cleaned and free of any damage.

Before doing anything else, we recommend simply waiting for a few extra minutes as you should eventually get the “Okay to use USB port” message.
