I recently got a chance to play Aggelos on a PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review code provided by Look At My Game and PQube Limited.
You can find my gameplay video below:
You can also read about my impressions below:
Pros:
- Simple but fun combat.
- Great retro graphics and soundtrack.
- Interconnected world.
Cons:
- Can be frustrating for some players.
Overall:
Aggelos is a 2D adventure game where you get to explore an interconnected world. A quick glimpse of the game may remind you of the Monster World/Wonder Boy titles.
As such, combat is simple yet fun. The real depth comes with learning when to use your abilities as well as learning the attack patterns from enemies.
The interconnected world is also quite interesting to explore as there are a lot of hidden locations and other secretes to find.
To top it all off, Aggelos provides an authentic and mesmerizing presentation. The graphics and soundtrack feel like they came right out of the TurboGrafx-16 era. Both still hold up extremely well in today’s standards.
The only potential drawback is that the difficultly can be a little frustrating as the game is quite old-school. You can easily get stuck during exploration and combat.
If you don’t mind getting challenged, then the Aggelos is a great 2D adventure game.
