I recently got a chance to play the first hour of Starlight Legacy on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review code provided by eastasiasoft.

You can check out my impressions on the JRPG below:
Pros:
- Successfully captures classic 16-bit Final Fantasy.
- Fast and snappy combat.
Cons:
- Encounter rate can be a little too high.
Overall:
Starlight Legacy is a JRPG that resembles a lot of the 16-bit Final Fantasy games, mainly Final Fantasy V.
From a top-down view, your party travel in between towns, dungeons and, eventually, the world map. Along the way, you learn new skills and magic to help you fight increasingly stronger enemies.
The combat itself is pretty basic as you have your normal attacks, skill attacks and magic abilities. There’s also a Limit Break mechanic that increases the potency of your actions.
The best part of the battles is that they are pretty fast and snappy. With the exception of boss fights, encounters can end quickly.
On the other hand, you will run into a lot of fights, which can be frustrating when you are trying to explore a dungeon thoroughly. You can end up fighting every few steps you take.
If you can tolerate the high frequency of random encounters, then Starlight Legacy is a great throwback 16-bit JRPG.
