Mecahconda on PS5 Pro: First Impressions

I recently got a chance to play around an hour of Mecahconda on the PlayStation 5 Pro console, thanks to a review copy provided by QUByte Interactive.

You can check out my gameplay below:

You also can find my first impressions below:

Pros:

  • Unique mix of Snake and Bullet Heaven.
  • Fun boss fights.

Cons:

  • Campaign mode is too difficult.

Overall:

Mechaconda combines the classic Snake mobile game with Bullet Heaven elements.

Like Snake, you need to move your character in a small grid. As you progress, your body will become longer, making it harder to move around since running into your own body will hurt yourself.

Unlike Snake, you don’t have to worry about borders. Passing one end of the grid will put you at the other end.

The other big difference is that you have to deal with enemies in Mechaconda. To fight back, you need to build up your arsenal. That is where the Bullet Heaven elements come in. After every wave, you get a chance to level up and potentially add to your fire power.

Like other Bullet Heaven games, you don’t have to worry about aiming as all you need to do is hold on the fire button while you jump and dodge around enemy attacks.

While the game offers a lot of cool power-ups, like the laser and boomerang, you unfortunately won’t see much of it in the campaign. This is because the story mode is extremely difficult due to the fact you start out with a limited selection of basic weapons. There’s no permanent upgrades to help you out either.

As a result, you will have a hard time beating even the first level of the first world.

Thankfully, the Roguelike and Boss Rush modes do let you experience the creative and powerful firepower. Not to mention that the bosses are fun to fight as well.

If you don’t mind the extremely difficult campaign mode, then Mechaconda is a fun and addicting mix of Snake and Bullet Heaven.
