I recently got a chance to try out an hour of Crescent Tower on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by AMATA K.K.
You can find my gameplay video below:
You can also check out my first impressions of Crescent Tower below:
Pros:
- Fast-paced old-school Final Fantasy combat.
- Multiple character classes.
- Difficulty settings.
Cons:
- None.
Overall:
Crescent Tower is an old school dungeon crawling JRPG that is heavily inspired by the 8-bit and 16-bit Final Fantasy.
Your main objective is to climb all ten floors of a tower that only appears once every 50 years. While that may not sound like a lot, each floor is filled with dangerous traps and enemies that can easily take out some, if not all, of your party.
As a result, you need to slowly make your way around on the dungeon and backtrack back to town if necessary to heal in addition to buy items and upgrade equipment.
The game also features a class-based system that provides different abilities inside and outside of combat. If you are a thief, for example, you can steal from enemies during fights, as well as NPCs when exploring the dungeon.
You can also change class after some point. This allows you to further build up your character as you can carry over certain stats and abilities.
When it comes to combat, you have a standard array of standard attacks to go along with special abilities. The battles can be sped up exponentially, which can be quite helpful when you consider the farily high encounter rate.
While the game can be hard, there is a Modern difficulty setting that you can pick from the beginning to make the experience much easier.
Overall, Crescent Tower is a lot of fun especially if you grew up playing 8-bit and 16-bit JRPGs like the old-school Final Fantasy games.
