Brotherhood on PS5 Pro: First Impressions

I recently got a chance to play an hour of Brotherhood, thanks to a review copy provided by Valkyrie Initiative.

You can find my gameplay video below:

Pros:

  • Fun retro-style first-person shooter.
  • Nice gore effects.

Cons:

  • Lack of mini-map.

Brotherhood is a retro-style first-person shooter inpsired by Wolfenstein 3D.

You will run around labyrinth-like levels trying to find the exit. Along the way, you have to take out countless enemies and find key cards to unlock doors. If you look closely enough, you may also find secret rooms that offer you a lot of bonuses.

The gameplay loop is quite fun in Brotherhood with its simple yet addicting combat. The fights are further enhanced by the gore as defeated enemies will spill the guts all over the environment, showing off the brutal aftermath of a gunfight.

The only real complaint is the lack of the mini-map, which means you most likely have to spend a lot of time backtracking through a level to find out where to go next.

If you are a fan of old school Doom and/or Wolfenstien, then you should give Brotherhood a look.
