I recently got a chance to play around an hour of Dungeon Minesweeper, thanks to a review copy provided by Stamina Zero.
You can find my gameplay video, as well as written impressions, below:
Pros:
- Interesting mix of Minesweeper with dungeon crawling.
- Save states.
Cons:
- Technical issues.
Overall:
Dungeon Minesweeper mixes the classic Minesweeper puzzle gameplay with dungeon crawling RPG elements.
To progress, you need to dig a path, as well as gather resources. Aside from some walls, the blocks may contain mines. You may see blocks with numbers, which indicates the number of mines that are surrounding it.
Furthermore, you have to deal with enemies that will move at the same time as your character. To fight them, you can either get up close, or use magic attacks.
Dungeon Minesweeper is a Roguelike, which means that you have to start the entire game all over again after dying. Fortunately, the normal story mode offers save states where you can save at any time, basically eliminating the Roguelike feature.
Unfortunately, I encountered some major bugs during my hour-long playthrough of Dungeon Minesweeper. At some point, the game got extremely choppy for me. When I closed the game and opened it back up, my save reverted to a much earlier point. If you are planning to play this game, make sure you use multiple save slots just in case.
Overall, Dungeon Minesweeper is a fun twist to the classic Minesweeper formula that is unfortunately held back by some technical issues.
