The Last Hero: Journey to the Unknown on PS5 Pro: First Impressions

I recently got a chance to play around an hour of The Last Hero: Journey to the Unknown on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by Ratalaika Games.

You can watch my gameplay for this game below:

You can also check out my first impressions of The Last Hero below:

Pros:

  • Big and detailed 2D pixels.
  • Simple but fun combat.

Cons:

  • Clunky platforming.

Overall:

The Last Hero: Journey to the Unknown is a 2D action game that focuses on wave-based combat.

While you only have one main attack with a sword swing, there are several power abilities you can purchase that will help you defeat enemies. The first of which rains down meteors across the screen.

Overall, combat is quite fun in The Last Hero, especially during the boss fight where you need to be more careful than usual.

The mains issue with the game in the clunky jumping. There were times when I thought I made it to the edge of a platform only to fall through. What makes this especially frustrating is that certain falls mean instant death, forcing to replay the stage from the first wave.

If you don’t mind the stiff platforming, then there’s plenty of fun to be had with The Last Hero: Journey to the Unknown.
