Is the A6G a suitable TV for PS5, Xbox Series X and other consoles?

The A6G is a new 2021 entry level television released by Hisense. So, is this budget friendly TV any good when it comes to playing games on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and other consoles?

You can find out via this Seeking Tech guide.

Quick Summary

The Hisense A6G does not support HDMI 2.1, 120 frames per second or Variable Refresh Rate. Although this 2021 television has HDR, it is missing a wide color gamut and has very low HDR brightness levels.

Due to these issues, the A6G is not suitable if you want to get the most out of the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and/or Xbox Series X.

The only redeeming factor for the A6G is that it has very low input lag for gaming.

A6G Screen Sizes

You can take a look at the available screen sizes of the A6G below:

  • 43″ (43A6G)
  • 50″ (50A6G)
  • 55″ (55A6G)
  • 58″ (58A6G)
  • 60″ (60A6G)
  • 65″ (65A6G)
  • 70″ (70A6G)
  • 75″ (75A6G)
  • 85″ (85A6G)

Does the A6G have any HDMI 2.1 ports?

The Hisense A6G does not come with any HDMI 2.1 ports. Instead, this 2021 television includes four HDMI 2.0 ports.

With HDMI 2.0, you will be able to play games at up to 60 frames per second in resolutions of 1080p, 1440p and 4K with the A6G.

Legacy Consoles Support

For older non-HDMI consoles, this Hisense 2021 television comes with an antenna/cable tuner that can be used to connect consoles like the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Master System and Sega Genesis.

This TV also includes an adapter for composite input, which means you will be able to connect systems such as the PS1, PS2, Nintendo 64, GameCube, Wii, Sega Saturn, Dreamcast and Xbox.

A6G HDR Features

When it comes to HDR features, the A6G supports Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG. This TV is not compatible with HDR10+ and does not feature a wide color gamut.

HDR10 is a format used by the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 Pro, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One X and Xbox One S.

The two Xbox Series consoles also support the Dolby Vision format.

A6G’s HDR Brightness in Game Mode

Supporting HDR is not enough as you will also need the appropriate brightness level (we recommend at least 500 nits) to properly show off the advantages of HDR.

Unfortunately, the A6G does not come anywhere close to reaching our recommended brightness minimum.

According to testing done by RTINGS.com, this Hisense television can only output 203 nits when you are playing a videogame using its game mode settings.

You can find the HDR brightness test results below (via RTINGS):

  • HDR Real Scene Highlight: 203 nits
  • HDR Peak 2% Window: 266 nits
  • HDR Peak 10% Window: 268 nits
  • HDR Peak 25% Window: 268 nits
  • HDR Peak 50% Window: 268 nits
  • HDR Peak 100% Window: 268 nits
  • HDR Sustained 2% Window: 266 nits

  • HDR Sustained 25% Window: 268 nits
  • HDR Sustained 50% Window: 268 nits
  • HDR Sustained 100% Window: 268 nits
  • HDR ABL: 0.001

Adaptive Sync Support

The A6G does not support any of the adaptive sync features such as Variable Refresh Rate.

VRR is currently supported by the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X. This feature, which will remove stutters and screen tears, is also expected to be added to the PS5 in the future.

A6G’s Input Lag

The A6G does have excellent input lag reduction when you enabled its game mode.

According to RTINGS.com, this 2021 Hisense television set has input delays of less than 11 milliseconds, which is very good if you want a responsive gaming experience.

You can find the input lag test results for the A6G below (via RTINGS):

  • 1080p resolution and 60 Hz refresh rate (Game Mode Enabled): 10.5 ms
  • 1440p resolution and 60 Hz refresh rate (Game Mode Enabled): 10.5 ms
  • 4K resolution and 60 Hz refresh rate (Game Mode Enabled): 10.5 ms
  • 4K resolution and 60 Hz refresh rate + 10-bit HDR (Game Mode Enabled): 10.6 ms
  • 4K resolution and 60 Hz at 4:4:4: 10.7 ms
  • 1080p resolution and 60 Hz refresh rate (Game Mode Disabled): 55.0 ms
  • 4K resolution and 60 Hz refresh rate (Game Mode Disabled): 44.2 ms

Is the A6G good for PS5, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X?

The A6G is a bad television set for the newer consoles as it does not come with support for HDMI 2.1, 120 frames per second or Variable Refresh Rate.

While HDR10 and Dolby Vision are supported, this television set does not use a wide color gamut and has poor HDR brightness levels.

Is the A6G good for Switch, PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One, Xbox One S and Xbox One X?

The one redeeming gaming feature of the A6G is that it offers very low input lag when you use its game mode setting.

As a result, this should be a pretty good television set for older HDMI consoles such as the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Switch, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

As we stated above, the A6G is a poor HDR TV. So, we don’t recommend using this television set for HDR capable games on the PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One S or Xbox One X.

If you want to watch your A6G television sets from many different viewing arrangements, then you should get an articulating mount. If you are interested in doing so, then we recommend getting the Pipishell Full Motion Dual Articulating TV Wall Mount Bracket, which has a model number of PILFK1.

When fully retracted, your A6G will be 3” away from the wall. You can then extend the PILFK1 to a maximum of 15.4” away from the wall.
