I recently got the chance to play around an hour of SNØ: Ultimate Freeriding on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by AMATA K.K.
You can find my gameplay video and first impressions below:
Pros:
- Three play styles: skis, sit-skis and snowboards.
- Incredible sense of speed.
- Hidden collectibles.
Cons:
- Rocks can be hard to judge.
Overall:
SNØ: Ultimate Freeriding is a downhill skiing game featuring skis, sit skis, and snowboards. The game offers five modes: Infinite Run, Score Attack, Pole Hunt, Zen Mode, and Peak of the Week.
In Infinite Run, your goal is to get as high of a score as possible before your crash. For Score Attack, your goal is to score as high as you can before traveling a set distance.
In Pole Hunt, your goal is to travel as far as possible before time runs out. For Peak of the Week, you compete with the high score s of other players on the same mountain. Last but not least, Zen Mode lets you play without having to worry about any high scores.
The mountains in Sno are procedurally generated and will change when you crash (unless you are playing the Peak of the Week mode).
The game features an incredible sense of speed once you build up some momentum. It can be quite an adrenaline rush weaving through obstacles and performing tricks while blazing down the mountain.
Along the way, you may spot a mystical bunny. If you manage to capture it, or find other collectibles that may randomly appear, then you get to unlock new outfits for your characters.
My only real issue with the game is that the rocks can be hard to judge. Sometimes you are able to grind on them and use them to as ramps, while in other situations you will end up crashing into them.
Overall, SNØ: Ultimate Freeriding is a thrilling downhill skiing game with an affordable price tag. Make sure to check it out if you are into these winter sport titles.
