River Strike: Trophy Guide & Mini Review

I recently got a chance to play through River Strike on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by Hoglet Interactive.

Trophy Tips:

  • All the helicopters have the same stats. Pick one and stick with it throughout the campaign.
  • Make sure you upgrade your helicopter after every mission. Only upgrade the helicopter you are using so that you can max it out as soon as possible. The game has an inverse difficulty as each upgrade should make completing the mission easier as you progress.
  • You should get all of the trophies, including Detailed and Deep Six, naturally by simply beating all 24 stages.

Overall:

River Strike is a vertical shoot-em-up where you play as a helicopter. It is actually a tribute to the 1982 arcade game, River Raid.

In River Strike, your goal is to make it to the end of the level. In order to do so, you have to fight off enemy helicopters, ships, ground vehicles, and more. Not to mention that you also have to deal with environmental hazards like bridges and narrow canyons.

River Strike starts out very difficult as your weapons deal weak damage while you are constantly running out of fuel. As you upgrade your helicopter, however, the game becomes gradually easier.

Although you die a lot, especially in the beginning, the checkpoints are pretty generous while you have an infinite number of lives. The game took me around 90 minutes to beat all 24 levels and unlock the platinum.

Overall, River Strike offers an interesting and fun take on the vertical shoot-em-up genre with its refueling mechanic. Because you are constantly running out of fuel, you need to play more aggressively when compared to other games from the same genre.

If you are a fan of shoot-em-ups and looking for something a little different than usual, but still provide plenty of fun, then you won’t be disappointed with River Strike.
