Primal Planet (PS5 Pro): First 60 Minutes – Jurassic Metroidvania

I recently got a chance to play the first hour of Primal Planet on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review code provided by Pretty Soon.

You can check out my gameplay video and first impressions below:

Pros:

  • Jurassic world that feels alive.
  • Pet dinosaur companion.
  • Local co-op support.

Cons:

  • None.

Overall:

Primal Planet is a Metroidvania set during the Jurassic time period. The first impressive thing that stood out immediately is how alive the levels feel. Dinosaurs, insects, fish, and animals are littered throughout. You also often see them attacking each other.

To survive in this world, you need to gather resources to recover health and build tools to progress. While Primal Planet features a crafting system and skill tree, neither of these feel too overwhelming to understand unlike most crafting games.

Another neat aspect is Sino, your pet dinosaur, who will follow you around and will help on its own during combat. There is also a mini skill tree just for your pet. In fact, a second player can even control Sino thanks to local co-op support.

Overall, Primal Planet is an excellent Metroidvania within a Jurassic setting that feels very alive. If you are a fan of this genre, then this is a can’t miss title.
