I recently got a chance to play around an hour of Kusan: City of Wolves, thanks to a review copy provided by PQube.
You can watch my gameplay below:
You can also find my first impressions of Kusan: City of Wolves below:
Pros:
- Compelling story.
- Fun and intense combat.
- Character upgrades.
Cons:
- May be too frustrating for some.
Overall:
Kusan: City of Wolves is a top-down action game heavily inspired by Hotline Miami. In order to progress, you have to carefully clear out all enemies in the area. Getting hit even once will result in death, forcing you to start from the beginning of the area.
The combat is quite fun and intense since one slip can end your run. To balance the difficulty, you are able to upgrade your character to add new abilities. You then must fit the abilities into grid to equip them. This can lead to some interesting builds.
The art style and soundtrack are both great, managing to capture the cyberpunk noir theme of the game. The story is also quite compelling as there are a lot of mysteries and hidden agendas.
Overall, Kusan: City of Wolves is a very impressive top-down action game. If you love Hotline Miami and don’t mind its challenging gameplay, then make sure you check out Kusan.
