The Samsung Galaxy S22, Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus and Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra smartphones have an Ingress Protection rating of IP68.
In terms of protection against solids, these devices should be fully dust tight.
As for water, these Samsung phones should be able to withstand being fully submerged in freshwater at a depth of 1.5 meters for a maximum of 30 minutes.
Keep in mind that the dust and water protection of the S22 series will weakened over time due to bumps, drops as well as general wear and tear.
How to prevent water damage with Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra
In order to prevent your Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ or Galaxy S22 Ultra from getting damaged from being exposed to water, we recommend taking the following precautionary steps:
1. Do not intentionally submerge your S22 phone.
2. Exposing the smartphone to liquids other than freshwater (such as seawater, pool water, oil, beverages and soapy water) may cause additional damage.
3. You should also avoid exposing the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ or Galaxy S22 Ultra to high pressure water.
4. Avoid using your phone in extremely hot temperature.
5. You should also avoid using your device in very humid environment such as a sauna, taking a hot bath or taking a hot shower.
6. As we stated above, the water resistance of the S22, S22 Plus and S22 Ultra will get worse over time due to normal wear and tear. The resistance will worsen quicker if your phone has been dropped or been heavily impacted with shock.
So, if you have an aged and/or damaged phone, then make sure you take extra precaution when using or storing your device near any liquid.
How to fix water damage for your Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra
If your Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ or Galaxy S22 Ultra have been exposed to water, then you can try taking the following steps:
1. Turn off your Samsung phone as soon as possible.
2. If you have a case, USB cable and/or other accessories currently installed on your Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ or Galaxy S22 Ultra, then you need to remove those from your smartphone.
3. If the device has been exposed to liquid other than plain freshwater, then we recommend that you clean it.
To see how you can properly clean your dirty S22 series smartphone, you can take a look at this guide.
4. Use a dry lint-free cloth to gently wipe the phone as dry as possible.
5. Next, you need to wait until your S22 is fully air dried.
You can speed up the air-drying process by using a fan to improve air circulation.
You shouldn’t use a hair blow dryer or other heat sources, however, as doing so may overheat your device and cause other issues.
6. After waiting for your phone to dry up, you can try turning it back on again.
7. We recommend testing the speaker and microphone of your Galaxy S22, S22+ or S22 Ultra.
If one or both sound distorted then it may be an indication that your phone has not completely dried. In this case, we suggest turning off your phone and then wait to give your device more time to dry out.
8. Once you are sure that your S22 has fully dried, you can turn it back on.
You should also be able to safely re-install the case, USB cable and other accessories that you have previously detached from your phone.
