How to fix Starfield frame rate issues on Xbox Series X and S

You may encounter some slowdowns, stuttering and/or frame drops when playing Starfield on your Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S. To see how you can potentially fix these frame rate problems, you can take a look at this troubleshooting article from Seeking Tech.

Before we begin, it is important to note that Starfield is limited to running at 30 frames per second maximum on both the Series X and Series S. Therefore, it will appear choppier when compared to 60 fps.

1. If you have been using the Quick Resume or Sleep features of your Series X or Series S, then these could be causing the frame rate dips. In this case, you can try restarting the game and console by taking the following steps:

  • Save your progress if you haven’t done so already.
  • Press the Xbox button to open the guide menu.
  • Move the cursor to the Starfield icon and then press the Menu button.
  • Select the Quit option in the pop-up window to close the software.

  • Press and hold the Xbox button to bring up the Power menu.
  • Select to restart your console.
  • Once your Series X or Series S has been rebooted, open Starfield and then load into your save file.

2. You can also try playing the RPG with your console offline.

In order to do so, head into the Settings menu on your Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S. From there, select General > Network settings > Go offline.

3. You can try power cycling your Xbox as well.

To do so, press and hold the Xbox button on the console for around 10 seconds to turn it off. Next, you need to unplug its power cord from the power outlet. After waiting at least 10 seconds, plug the console back in and then turn it on.

4. Furthermore, you can try deleting Starfield and then re-installing it.

5. Of course, you should make sure that you have the latest patch downloaded for the game as well as the latest firmware installed for your Series X or Series S. These updates may improve the performance of Starfield.

6. If your television screen or monitor has some sort of motion interpolation, then you can try turning this feature on when playing Starfield as it will make the game appear smoother.

7. Some screens are better at displaying 30 fps video games than others. So, if possible, you can try playing Starfield on a different television set or monitor.
