How to enable speech-to-text in the ChatGPT Android App

The ChatGPT Android App features speech-to-text as you can use the microphone of your phone or smart device to talk to the A.I. of the mobile application. To see how you can turn this on, you can check out this tutorial from Seeking Tech.

1. For the first step, you need to open the ChatGPT Android App if you haven’t done so already.

2. During a chat session, you should see a microphone icon to the left of the Message field. Tap it to enable voice input.

3. If you did not previously enable the Microphone permission for this application, then you should see the following message:

Allow ChatGPT to record audio?

In this notification, you need to select the “While using the app” option to enable speech-to-text for the current and future chat sessions. If you only want to use voice input just this one time, then you can select the “Only this time” option instead.

4. Next, you should see a purple box pop up from the bottom of the screen indicating that your phone or smart device is currently recording your voice input.

Put the microphone close to your mouth and then ask your question.

5. To stop the recording, tap the purple box.

6. The ChatGPT Android App will then send the recording to the Whisper API to be transcribed your voice input into text.

6. Once the text has shown up in the Message field, tap the up arrow to input the text to the chat session in order to get ChatGPT to respond to your inquiry.
