How to connect a printer to the eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E

You are able to connect a compatible printer directly to the eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 and eero Pro 6E. To find out how to properly do so, you can take a look at this tutorial from Seeking Tech.

Before we start, it should be noted that this article is mainly based on the eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 and eero Pro 6E. However, the steps should also apply to the older eero routers as well.

What printers are compatible with the eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 and eero Pro 6E?

If you want to connect a printer to your eero using a wired connection, then the printer needs to support the Ethernet connection.

If you want to connect a printer wirelessly to the eero network, then the printer needs to support the WPA2 AES-based CCMP encryption. The other encryption types (WEP, WPA, WPA2 TKIP and WPS) won’t work with the eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E.

1. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the printer and then the other end to the eero router.

How to connect a printer to the eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E over Wi-Fi

To connect a printer to the eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 or eero Pro 6E wirelessly, you need to take the following steps:

1. To start off, you need to check to see if your printer support WPA2 AES as other type of wireless encryptions won’t work.

Some printers that don’t support WPA2 AES initially may have added support for the encryption with a driver update. Therefore, we recommend that you try updating the firmware of the printer if it doesn’t support WPA2 AES right out of the box.

2. If your printer was previously connected to another wireless network, then you need to reset its network settings. To do so from the printer’s menu system, please refer to the user manual of the printer.

3. Next, you need to connect your printer to your eero network. Once again, you need to look at the user manual of your printer to see how you can connect it to a Wi-Fi network. You will also need to enter the password for your eero network during this setup process.

If you haven’t set up your eero network yet, then you might want to take a look at this guide to see how you can do so without using a mobile network.
