I recently got to play around one hour of DUCK: Dangerous Ultimate Cartridge Kidnapper on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by Valkyrie Initiative.
You can find my gameplay video below:
Here are my impression of this game:
Pros:
- A lot of fun and creative microgames.
- Diverse visual styles.
- Practice mode for beginners.
Cons:
- Some microgames can be infuriating, even on the easiest difficulty.
Overall:
DUCK: Dangerous Ultimate Cartridge Kidnapper offers a collection of 100 microgames with most lasting just a few seconds. If you have ever played the WarioWare games before, then you should feel right at home.
Most of these are quite fun and creative. Some also pay homage to the Game and Watch, NES and Super NES classic titles.
The graphics are also quite diverse as each microgame looks different when compared to the other.
To make things easier for beginners, there is an optional practice mode where you can play each level as much as you want before trying it out for real. This is especially helpful in the story mode where you have a limited number of lives.
Even with the practice mode, some of the microgames can be infuriating. Thankfully, these are far and few between. With the exception of boss levels at higher difficulties, you can also skip the frustrating games in the story mode if you like.
Overall, if you love microgame collections like WarioWare, then DUCK: Dangerous Ultimate Cartridge Kidnapper is a fun alternative worth checking out.
It should be noted that the game is a little buggy if you have the “Enhance Image Quality for PS4 Games” setting enabled on your PlayStation 5 Pro. The audio will skip at the intro cut scene and the game crashed on me once. So, if you are playing on a PS5 Pro, make sure to turn off “Enhance Image Quality for PS4 Games.”
