I recently got to play through Cornfield on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review code provided by Upscale Studio.
You can check out my platinum trophy walkthrough below:
Trophy tips:
- I was able to unlock all but two trophies by doing a “perfect run,” which means I assembled the shotgun, kill three enemies with the shotgun, never got caught, and never triggered any bear traps. Of course, you can unlock these on separate runs.
- If you are playing the game for the first time, I suggest getting the shotgun and killing trophies first. This will also familiarize yourself with the map if you are planning to do the run where you need to avoid getting caught and setting off traps.
- Use the hint button to show where the main objective is located.
- The two enemies, the cornfield monster and dog, most likely won’t patrol the outer edge of the map. So, you can stick close to the fence when moving around.
- The cornfield monster can show up in the maze. I’m not sure if it was helpful, but I stayed crouched the entire time inside the maze and never encountered him. If you hear his footsteps, try to backtrack as much as possible while crouched.
- For the electric device puzzle, you have to press the switches in a specific order, which is randomized. Use trial and error until you get all the switches lit up.
- The number for the lock combination is also randomized, so you need to go through with the main objectives in every run.
- For the killing trophies, the cornfield monster usually hangs around the hut, while the dog can be found in the graveyard. Try to stay near a haystack and lure them there so that you can easily shoot without having to worry about getting caught. Keep in mind that the enemies will revive after a certain time. You need to kill three total, I ended up killing the dog once for a trophy, and the cornfield monster twice to get the Hunter trophy for three kills.
- Unfortunately, the game has an awful glitch where items sometime disappear depending on where you drop them. The shovel, which is needed for the shotgun parts, disappears the most often for me. To play it safe, try to follow my video as closely as possible to see where I dropped the shovel and other items.
You can find my mini review for Cornfield below:
Pros:
- Extremely tense rougelike survivor horror.
- Hint system.
Cons:
- Items can completely disappear when dropped.
Overall:
Cornfield is a roguelike survivor horror game where you have to escape from the cornfield monster and his dog. You have three lives to get out to safety. If you get caught three times, then you have to start all over again.
The game is extremely tense since the enemies can see you from far away. Not to mention, it sometimes feels like they have eyes at the back of their head.
If you get spotted, the panic-inducing music starts to play, and you will start seeing red flashes on the screen. These are actually quite helpful as you are given a chance to quickly run before you get caught. Just make sure you don’t run where the enemy is located.
To help you out, Cornfield offers an optional hint system to show you where to go next.
Unfortunately, the game has a glitch where items will disappear completely when dropped. This can be extremely frustrating if you are deep in a run since you are forced to restart from the beginning. I had it happened several times where the shovel, which is needed to get the shotgun, would get absorbed into the environment.
Outside of the soft locking glitch, Cornfield is an intense roguelike survivor horror game that you should check out if you are into the genre.
