Class of Heroes: Anniversary Edition on PS5 Pro: First Impressions

I recently got to play around an hour of Class of Heroes: Anniversary Edition on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by PQube.

You can find my gameplay video, as well as my written impressions, below:

Pros:

  • Many character customization options.
  • Deep gameplay mechanics.
  • Nice visual upgrade compared to PSP version.

Cons:

  • Very steep learning curve.

Overall:

Class of Heroes is a dungeon crawling role-playing game in the same vein as Wizardry. Thus, the focus is not the story, but in the explorations of the dungeons.

At the start, you get to create your own characters and put them in your journey. Along with their class, you can also select their race, which can increase your party’s affinity depending on the composition of your team.

In addition to combat abilities, some classes also have field abilities like being able to disarm traps and identify unknown items.

While Class of Heroes has quite a few deep gameplay mechanics, it also results in a very steep learning curve.

If you are having trouble, try to create a team where your front three have high attack stats. For the back row, add a Thief (to disarm chests with traps), Bishop (to identify items and heal) and Priest (another healer).

Before starting a dungeon, make sure to buy a map for it. If you don’t, you will most likely get lost.

You should also save your game beforehand as well in case your party gets wiped. That way, you can reload your save instead of wasting time and money rescuing the downed team.

You should also consider staying near the start of the dungeon to level up some levels before going deeper. The difficulty setting can be set to Easy as well.

With all that said, there is still a chance that you can die during your dungeon raids, even with the easiest difficulty setting. Thankfully, the game allegedly gets easier the more you play.

If you don’t mind the steep learning curve at the start, then Class of Heroes: Anniversary Edition is a pretty solid dungeon crawling RPG.
