At capacities that are bigger than 32GB, the SanDisk Extreme Pro is the best at transfer speeds out of this group, followed by the SanDisk Extreme. The Ultra version is the slowest.

Speed Class

The SanDisk Extreme, Extreme Pro and Ultra memory cards have been rated for Class 10, which means that all three models have a minimum write speed of 10 MB per second.

UHS Speed Class

The three versions of the SanDisk SD card have also been categorized with an UHS speed class of U1, which means that you will get a minimum writing speed of 10 MB per second as well.

Video Speed Class

The Extreme and Extreme Pro SD cards have a video speed class rating at V30, which means both are capable of achieving a minimum sustained write speeds of 30 MB per second.

The Ultra SD cards does not have any video speed class rating. So, it should be less than 30 MB per second.

Transfer Speed

The maximum transfer speeds between the Extreme, Extreme Pro and Ultra SD cards are different depending on the capacity.

When you compared the same capacities, the 32GB Ultra is 30 MB per second faster (or 33.33% faster) than the 32GB Extreme and 25 MB per second faster (or 26.32% faster) than the 32GB Extreme Pro.

For the bigger capacities, the Extreme Pro comes out on top as it beats the Extreme by 20 MB per second (or 13.33% faster) and Ultra by 50 MB per second (or 41.67% faster).

Nintendo Switch Memory Card Recommend Specs

Nintendo recommends that you use a memory card that has a bus interface of UHS-I.

Although you can also use UHS-II memory cards with your Switch and/or Switch Lite, your speeds will be limited to the UHS-I specifications. Thus, there is no reason to get an UHS-II memory card over an UHS-I memory card for your Switch system.

The other recommend specification is the read/transfer speed as Nintendo suggests the specs to be at least 60 MB per second. You will get a better gameplay experience, such as better load times, with higher read speeds.

However, both the Switch and Switch Lite only supports a maximum reading speed of up to 95 megabytes per second. So, even if you have a memory card with a much faster speed, you will be bottlenecked to 95 MB/s.

Thus, there is no point in getting a memory card that has a read/transfer speed that is significantly above 98 MB.

Capacity Options

All four of the Switch compatible memory cards in this versus guide are available in capacities of 64GB, 128GB, 256GB and 512GB. The SanDisk Ultra also offers 16GB and 32GB options.

The SanDisk Extreme and SanDisk Extreme Pro are available in 32GB as well as 1TB.

Speed Classifications

There are several speed classifications, which can be quite confusing.

Class

The first is class, which represents the minimum write speed of a micro SD card. All the Lexar cards in this comparison guide are Class 10, meaning that the products have a minimum write speed of at least 10 MB per second.

UHS Speed Class

Next up is the UHS Speed Class, which also shows the minimum write speed of a card.

The 300x series, as well as the 32GB versions of the 663x and 1066x, are classified as U1, meaning that the cards have a write speed of at least 10 MB per second.

The rest of the cards are classified as U3 since these products have a write speed of at least 30 MB per second.

Video Speed Class

Video Speed Class measures the sustained writing ability of a memory card, which is important for continuous video recording.

The 300x series don’t have any classification, so it is not suitable for video recording.

The 32GB versions of the 663x and 1066x are V10 as these microSD cards are capable of 10 MB per second.

The 512GB version of the 663x, 128GB to 256GB versions of the 667x as well as the 64GB to 256GB versions of the 1066x are classified as A2.
