Hail to the Rainbow on PS5 Pro: First Impressions

I recently got a chance to play around an hour of Hail to the Rainbow on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by Sometimes You.

You can find my gameplay video, as well as my first impressions, below:

Pros:

  • Very Atmospheric.
  • Flashback sequences.

Cons:

  • None.

Overall:

Hail to the Rainbow is a first-person adventure game where you play as a boy trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk world.

The game is rather atmospheric as the abandoned buildings and snow-filled outdoors give the game a rather lonely and isolated feeling.

You often need to scour buildings to find parts. For example, batteries are at a premium as electricity is needed to power up tablets and other devices. Some of these also provide context to the world in the form of text, photos, audio logs, and videos.

To keep the gameplay fresh, there are occasional flashback sequences that show off what life was like before the world fell apart. These scenes also dig into the psyche of the main character.

Overall, Hail to the Rainbow is a slow but very immersive first-person adventure game with a heavy emphasis on story. If you are a fan of narrative games, then make sure to check it out.
