Isle of Reveries on PS5 Pro: First Impressions

I recently got a chance to play around an hour of Isle of Reveries on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by Electric Airship,

You can check out my gameplay video below:

You can also take a look at my first impressions of Isle of Reveries below:

Pros:

  • Game Boy Color aesthetics.
  • Classic 2D Zelda gameplay.
  • Clever puzzles.

Cons:

  • Confusing in-game map.

Overall:

Isle of Reveries is a game that looks like it came straight out of the Game Boy Color. More specifically, the game heavily resembles the classic Link’s Awakening.

Playing as an owl, you travel the world from a top-down perspective. Just like the Zelda games, you will eventually come upon dungeons that are filled with deadly monsters and tricky puzzles.

The game doesn’t hold your hand, which means that you have to figure out how to progress. Although some of the puzzles may take some time and ingenuity to figure out; once you do, however, you will feel a tremendous sense of satisfaction.

The only real complaint so far is that the in-game map can be somewhat confusing to read. It often shows that a room is accessible in all directions when it isn’t, often leading you astray.

Outside of that, Isle of Reveries is a great throwback to those who are craving for classic 2D Zelda.
