Folk Hero on PS5 Pro: First Impressions

I recently got a chance to play around an hour of Folk Hero, thanks to a review copy provided by Targem Games.

You can find my gameplay video below:

You can also check out my first impressions of Folk Hero below:

Pros:

  • Soulslike combat with rouglike elements.
  • Environmental hazards and traps.
  • 3-player local co-op.

Cons:

  • None.

Overall:

Folk Hero is a pixelart soulslike with rougelike elements. For a top-down perspective, you get to explore the Slavic-inspired world.

Your actions are limited by the stamina meter, which means you have to be careful when to attack and dodge, especially if you are surrounded by enemies. Just like the Souls game, each fight can go south quickly, which adds a lot of intensity with each encounter.

You also must pay attention to traps and environmental hazards. Not only to avoid, but to also lure enemies into these dangers to get free damage.

During your exploration, you will run into shop owners that will give you temporary boosts like adding elementals to your weapons. There will also be opportunities to heal as well as temporary boost your stats.

After you die, you will return to the starting beach area, which is where you can get permanent buffs to your health, attack power, stamina and more.

If you find the challenge to be too hard, then you are able to play the game in co-op with up to two other players.

Overall, Folk Hero is a fun and addicting roguelike Action RPG. If you are a fan of the genre, then make sure you check this game out.
