Future Knight on PS5 Pro: Mini Review

I recently got a chance to play through Future Knight on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by Aeternum Game Studios.

You can check out my gameplay below:

You can also take a look at my mini review for Future Knight below:

Pros:

  • Unique art style and soundtrack.
  • Wonderfully weird enemies.

Cons:

  • Soft locks.

Overall:

Future Knight immediately jumps out from the rest with its unique art style, which is heavily influenced by classic LCD handheld titles such as Game and Watch as well as numerous Tiger Electronic games.

Aside from the flashy visuals, the game also features an earworm soundtrack.

In terms of gameplay, Future Knight is a run-and-gun where you can transform into Future Knight or Two More. With Future Knight, you can shoot with your gun and have three bars of health. With Two More, you can do a powerful dash attack but will be limited to one bar of health.

When playing as Future Knight, Two More will recover its energy bar. When playing as Two More, Future Knight will recover its health. You will need to switch between the two regularly to bypass obstacles and defeat enemies.

The enemies in the game can be quite weird in a good way. Every time you encounter a new type, you have no idea what it is going to do. As a result, the experience remains fresh from beginning to end.

Future Knight took me around four and a half to complete the true ending, which requires you to collect all triangle collectibles. The game also offers a hard mode and time trials, adding a lot of replay value to an already satisfying experience.

The only real issue I have is that the game soft locked on me several times during my playthrough.

Overall, Future Knight is an excellent run-and-gun game with a stellar presentation. If you are a fan of 2D shooters, then this unique title is a must have.
