Disgaea Mayhem on PS5 Pro: First Impressions

I recently got a chance to try out Disgaea Mayhem on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by NIS America.

You can find my gameplay video below:

You can also check out my first impressions of Disgaea Mayhem below:

Pros:

  • Unique mix of Musou with Disgaea elements.
  • Fun boss fights.

Cons:

  • Simplistic combat.

Overall:

Disgaea Mayhem combines the unique progression system of the Disgaea series with the Musou action of games like Dynasty Warriors. As a result, you get a rather unique mix of two vastly different genres.

Despite being an action game, Mayhem retains a lot of the progression elements from Disgaea, such as the Dark Assembly, Item World and more. Like the mainline titles, you can grind as much as you want to become extremely overpowered.

While the combat is fun, it is also quite simplistic. A lot of the normal enemies go down easily with little resistance as they don’t attack you aggressively. Not to mention that you only have to defeat a set number of them before moving on to the next group.

Thankfully, the bosses pose more of a challenge as you actually need to pay attention to their attacks as they hit hard while also having a tom of HP to boot.

If you don’t mind the simple combat, then Mayhem offers a fun Musou-spin to the Disgaea formula.
