I recently got a chance to play through Defending Camelot on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by eastasiasoft.
You can find my gameplay video below:
Pros:
- Lots of content.
- Barrack and Shop features add a little bit of variety.
Cons:
- Randomized enemy spawns.
Overall:
Defending Camelot is a 2D tower defense game similar to Plants vs. Zombies where you defend against enemies invading from the right side of the screen.
Defending Camelot is packed full of content as there are apparently 160 levels total. In my hour with the game, I only was able to clear 10 levels, even though the first few were basically tutorials.
Furthermore, I saw only a few units the game has to offer. You will encounter 44 total as you progress further.
In terms of gameplay, Defending Camelot plays as you expect. Your main goal is to place units on the field to stop the incoming invaders. The units are pretty diverse, and you only get to pick a few to head into battle. So, there are a lot of unique strategies you can come up with.
Outside of the stages, you can use the Barrack to get more gems. You can then use the gems you acquire from the Barrack, as well as the missions, to purchase power-ups.
The only issue I have with the game is that the enemy spawns are randomized. This means that you can’t come up with a proper strategy beforehand. Not to mention that this also makes the levels a lot less unique.
Outside of the randomized enemy encounter, Defending Camelot is a component 2D tower defense game if you can’t get enough of titles like Plants vs. Zombies.
