I recently got a chance to play around an hour of Book of Korvald, thanks to a review copy provided by eastasiasoft. You can find my gameplay video below:
You can also check my first impressions of Book of Korvald below:
Pros:
- Dark and mature themes.
- Having multiple party members fight alongside you.
Cons:
- Combat lacks punch.
Overall:
Book of Korvald is a 2D action RPG with many dark and mature elements. In fact, some of the more explicit content got removed for the console release.
Most of the scenes are also voice acted, which adds to the presentation and immersion.
Aside from its story, the game is unique in that you can recruit multiple party members that will fight alongside you in real-time. As a result, skirmishes can end up being chaotic.
With that said, combat lacks intensity, mainly due to the awkward animations and hit indications. Most of the time, you feel like you are slicing through the air when you are actually hitting the enemy.
If you don’t mind the weak combat gameplay, then Book of Korvald is a pretty unique side-scrolling RPG with dark and mature themes that you don’t normally find in other games from the same genre.
