Schildmaid MX on PS5 Pro: First Impressions

I recently got a chance to play around an hour of Schildmaid MX on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by eastasiasoft.

You can find my gameplay video and impressions below:

Pros:

  • Unique enemy bullet absorbing mechanic.
  • Flashy particle effects.
  • Accessibility features.

Cons:

  • None

Overall:

Schildmaid MX is a shoot-em-up with a unique twist where you intentionally get hit my enemy bullets to not only build up your shield but also increase your fire power.

If your shield runs out, however, you will be vulnerable to the same enemy bullets. Not to mention that lasers and missiles can’t be absorbed at all, which means you need to avoid them at all costs.

The action can get rather intense as one moment you will be absorbing bullets to create a shield and build up your attacks, while the next moment you will be franticly dodging enemy bullets when your shield gets compromised.

Once you get the hang of the unique mechanic, Schildmaid MX can be quite addicting. The experience is further enhanced by great particle effects that fill the screen with chaos. While this may make it hard to see, there is a robust list of accessibility options to remove a lot of the visual noises.

If you are a fan of shoot-em-ups and are looking for something fresh, then you should definitely give Schildmaid MX a try.
