Codename: Black Crow on PS5 Pro: First Impressions

I recently got a chance to play around an hour of Codename: Black Crow on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by Ratalaika Games.

You can find my gameplay video below:

You can also read my impressions below:

Pros:

  • Old school Metal Gear action.
  • RPG elements add depth.

Cons:

  • Confusing map design.

Overall:

Codename: Black Crow is a top-down action role-playing game that takes heavy inspiration from the old school 2D Metal Gear games. You even use rations to heal.

There aren’t a lot of games today that are stylized after the original Metal Gears, which makes Black Crow somewhat of a fresh experience if you are looking at trying something new.

With that said, Black Crow does stand on its own with its RPG elements. You are able to level up, craft equipment, and raid dungeon-like outposts with a boss to fight at the end.

While the game is fun, the map design can be confusing as a lot of the areas look familiar. You will need to open the map a lot and, even then, it may take some time to figure out where to go.

If you don’t mind getting lost sometimes, then you should have plenty of fun with Codename: Black Crow.
