The Google Pixel 6a comes with a built-in microphone that you can use to talk with others as well as issue voice commands. If the mic doesn’t seem to be working properly on your smartphone, then you can take a look at this troubleshooting article from Seeking Tech.
1. The first step we recommend taking is to make sure that you have Microphone Access enabled. In order to do so, you need to take the following steps:
- To start off, turn on the screen of your Pixel 6a and then unlock it if you haven’t done so already.
- Next, you need to go to the Settings App.
- After opening the Settings App, scroll down and then select Privacy from the list of available options.
- Once you get to the Privacy menu, make sure that the Microphone Access setting is turned on.
2. If the Google Pixel 6a microphone is only muted when you are using a specific app, then you need to make sure you grant the application permission to use the mic input on your phone.
You can do so by taking the following steps:
- Start by opening the Settings App.
- In the Settings App, tap Privacy.
- From the Privacy menu, select Permission Manager.
- Inside the Permission Manager menu, you then need to tap Microphone.
- In the Microphone menu, you will see a list of apps that support the Pixel 6a’s microphone. The list is separated by the following categories: “Allowed all the time,” “Allowed only while in use” and “Not allowed.”
- If the app is listed in the “Not allowed” category, then you need to select it.
- In the Microphone Permission menu for the app, you can then either select the “Allow only while using the app” or “Ask every time” options.
- Repeat the same process for any other apps that you want to enable microphone support for.
3. Some apps may have settings where you can turn on and/or customize microphone support. Therefore, you can try looking at the menus of these applications to see if you are able to get the mic working.
4. If you have earphones, headphones or headset connected to your Google Pixel 6a, then the phone may switch the microphone input over to your listening device instead.
In this case, you can make sure that the mic of your earphones, headphones or headset is activated. Alternatively, you can simply disconnect your listening device from your smartphone if you want to use the built-in mic of your Pixel 6a instead.
5. We also suggest that you keep the apps, as well as the firmware of your Google phone, updated to the latest versions. A new update may help with resolving your microphone problems.
6. If your microphone is still not functional in certain apps, then you can try deleting the troublesome applications and then re-installing them again to see if doing so will fix your issue.
