Pros:
- Up to 10 players online co-op.
- Deep survival crafter with Soulslike combat.
- Non-intrusive food mechanics.
- World modifiers with difficulty settings.
Cons:
- Single-player can be tedious.
Overall:
Valheim is an open world crafting game where you can play with up to 10 players per server. In addition to surviving, your main goal is to take down the big boss.
To survive, you need to build a base in order to survive enemy raids while you build up your arsenal to eventually take down the boss of the area.
What makes Valheim unique is the low polygon visuals, which resemble something you see in the PS1 era. The combat also relies on a stamina bar, so you can’t button smash your way to victory.
While you can eat in the game, not doing so will not drain your stats. Instead, food will give you buffs.
Based on my limited time with the game so far, Valheim is one of the more polished open-world survival crafter. With that said, I highly recommend playing with others online as the single player mode can be tedious as you need to do a lot of things on your own instead of relying on others.
The good news is that you can use the world modifiers to customize the difficulty in both single and multiplayer. For the single player, you can turn down combat difficulty, while also increasing the resource rate.
Overall, Valheim is an absolute must play for fans of the survival crafting genre.
