I recently got a chance to play around an hour of Turnip Mountain on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by Jandusoft.
You can find my gameplay video below:
You can check out my impressions of Turnip Mountain below:
Pros:
- Unique climbing platformers.
- Excellent soundtrack.
- Local co-op.
Cons:
- Steep learning curve.
Overall:
Turnip Mountain is a platforming game based on climbing. You control each arm with the analog stick, using the shoulder buttons to hold and let go of objects. Being physics based, you can use your arm movements and momentum to help you jump higher, swing across vines, use cranks, and more.
If you like to, you can also play with someone else locally in co-op, where you each get to control one arm.
Since the controls are rather unique, you can expect a steep learning curve, especially when trying to pull off moves for the first time. In fact, I was still struggling with certain aspects after an hour.
Although the controls may take some time to learn, the game is well worth the effort due to its creative level design that will constantly test your ability to control two arms as you climb to the exit.
Turnip Mountain has a distinctive monotone look, similar to what to see from Game Boy games, to go along with an excellent chiptune soundtrack.
If you are looking for a unique platforming game, then you should definitely try out Turnip Mountain.
