The Sinking City 2 on PS5 Pro: First Impressions

I recently got a chance to try out The Sinking City 2 in Performance Mode on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review code provided by Frogwares.

You can find my gameplay below:

You can also check out my first impressions of The Sinking City 2 below:

Pros:

  • Creepy atmosphere with high production value.
  • Unique survivor horror setting.

Cons:

  • Lack of PSSR support.

Overall:

Unlike the first game, which is more of a detective-focused action-adventure, The Sinking City 2 is a straight up survivor horror experience. Like Resident Evil, you have to defeat a wide array of monsters, solve esoteric puzzles, and scavenge for items.

What makes The Sinking City 2 unique is its setting as the game takes place in a city flooded with water. To move from one accessible location to the next, you often need to use a small boat.

The atmosphere is also on point, as its dimly lit room and ambient monster noises will keep you on the edge of your seat. When you see slithers on the ground heading towards a certain direction, it usually means that something awful is up ahead.

Although not as polished as the Resident Evil games, especially when you compare the lip syncing, The Sinking City 2 is still a pretty impressive looking game. The environment and grotesque monsters are both varied and detailed.

With that said, The Sinking City 2 does not support PSSR at launch on the PlayStation 5 Pro. While the Performance runs smoothly at 60 frames per second, the image quality does appear to be a little softer.

Outside of the lack of true PS5 Pro support, which should hopefully be added in a future patch, The Sinking City 2 is a great alternative if you are hungry for more over-the-shoulder Resident Evil type experiences.
