Port of Jumanah on PS5 Pro: First Impressions

I recently got a chance to play around an hour of Port of Jumanah on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by Red Dunes Games.

You can take a look at my gameplay video below:

You can find my first impressions of Port of Jumanah below:

Pros:

  • Unique underwater setting.
  • Side quests keep gameplay fresh and interesting.
  • Accessibility features for those who just want to enjoy the story.

Cons:

  • None.

Overall:

Port of Jumanah is a roguelike action RPG, where you get to explore various underwater locations off of an Arabian coast.

You only have a limited amount of oxygen available before you get kicked out of the dungeon. Oxygen also serves as a health bar, so you have to be quick and careful when underwater if you want to make it all the way to the end.

To refill oxygen, you can find oxygen tanks as well as a big air-filled seashell. To further increase your chances of survival, you are able to acquire temporary power-ups and weapons.

While combat may appear simple, things can quickly get out of hand when dealing with multiple enemies. This means that you have to be constantly on alert in order to dodge out of enemy attacks.

Outside of the waters, you have a small hub area where you can talk to merchants to permanently upgrade your character and loadout. This is also where you find side quests, which provide a nice change of pace in addition to adding some context to the game world.

If you are not a fan of roguelikes, then you can simply enable infinite oxygen from the game menu and enjoy the game without having to worry about dying.

Overall, Port of Jumanah is a fun roguelike with a unique underwater setting. If you are a fan of the genre, then make sure to check it out. Even if you don’t like roguelikes, you can enjoy the experience by enabling infinite oxygen.
